Yeah, Ive seen a couple in the flesh and they aint pretty!

Just a Proton on steroids!

Rich some RB5s came with the PPP mods some didnt make sure you get a PPP one or a CUP will be right up your chuff! Even with the PPP there wont be much in it till about 90 mph as I found out when I raced a 280 hp M99 Scooby. Good luck with you choice.

Rich for the price of a cup you could get a EVO 7, and still have money left over for insurance etc.......
No way you can just get an Evo 3 for that price. To be honest I would sell my cup for an evo 7 at that price.

If you have the money for the RB5 I think I would maybe go for it. It would have to be mint though. Cup is fantasic for the money.

lol may not be a 7 but i can get you a 5/6 for 12-13k

Test drive them both extensively. What are you gonna use the car for mainly. Sunday drives or everyday. How much are they gonna cost to run. Do you want a brand new car or a happy with a second hand car? If you want speed, you can get Skyline R32 GTR with 400bhp for that money.

LOL

Im driving it in Oldham actually...

Anyway, went to see my mate at the Renault dealer tonight and he said I can have a Cup for £11k or a 172 for £12.3k so I just wanted to get an exact price.

Whats the cheapest people have seen "pukka" UK Cups and/or 172s for then???

Would probably go for a 172 at the price, as its the same cost as at Motorpoint, only a full UK car!

They just happen to have a new, unregistered blue on in stock... ;)

But, Ill drive the Impreza first! (y)

Rolf.. no which version? or are you planning nicking the first one you see tonight and taking it for a spin;)

Well then - all this suspense is killing us;)
Very, VERY quick off the mark and 1st & 2nd are a real kick up the @rse, but in 5th gear at say 80mph, if you floor it, its not as quick as I expected.

Dont get me wrong it still bl00dy shifts, but it was a standard UK car, so needs modding. Potential is there though!

Brakes were poo though, as this was a 2 pot caliper model, so 306 p!sses all over it in that area.

Gear change was short, but nothcy and not as precise as Id like, although as 84k miles its not the tightest example.

Not as much legroom as the Pug either, so a bit odd.

Got a few more cars (some Imprezas) in the pipeline though, so well have to see, as I am definately driving a newer one to compare.

Do not even dream about doing one off the lights though, as it was waaaay quicker 0-60 than I expected!

I think the boggo UK ones are generally not that fast - been in a few and not impressed (as i thought i would be). Some of thoose jap imports with the shorter gearing can shift if you can put up with the extra hastle that comes with them. You were after a RB5 tho and its got more power hasnt it? A MY98 has 200-218 (cant remember).

thats AWD for you - but the increased tranny losses means your not as fast once moving. Thats why a lot of the RS guys prefer the 2WD Cossies to the 4WD - but the Ford 4wd has massive losses compared to the scoob as its ancient.

Yeah, RB5 is a top choice.

An Evo is just far too expensive to buy, run, insure, etc...

My mate had a VI and it cost a fortune!

is it true evo gearboxes need rebuilding every few thousand miles?
Not to my knowledge...

My mate had his EvoVI for over 2 years, running about 350bhp and did loads of trackdays in it, but there were no issues with the gearbox.
