Track / race only suspension setup for Ph1 172

Car  ExigeV6|Q5|DS3|Fiat
Hi all, having been an avid fan of the RenaultSport Clio from owning the original Williams and 16V in '99, 172/182 and a cup racer so I'm back 10 years later having just purchased a Ph1 172 that has been involved in Hillclimbing. Its caged up, fire extinguisher plumbed in etc however its running the standard suspension which is no good for me as I want to rag it round the track.....so whats the best budget option to convert the standard suspension for the track? I dont want any pitch/roll and its on a trailer to and from circuit so no worries about comfort.

thanks for any help in advance!

I'm in the same boat, currently narrowed down to AVO GTX or ASTs 1 or 2s, which equals more budget needed.

Yep £700 and above or just go for at least £1000 as if you buy cheap your buy twice especially for track use..that's brand new gear mind. Sometimes good 2nd hand gear comes up on here. Also decent brake pads are a good idea if doing track days..£100 right there

Whatever you get, have a decent setup done. No point spending money on suspension then having a mate chuck them on, guesstimate heights etc.

So what we talking for a half decent track setup?

I'm using bilsteins which were around £600 new, can't fault them at all. There's a few around this price I think Gaz being another.

After that your on to AST's which are around £1600 new or around £1100 used, preferred choice by most racers.

Thanks, whats the general consensus for choice?
I would definitely say BC at £700 They come as standard with what I believe is a slightly too soft front spring for hard track use. I chose this as I use the car for my commute too so wanted it comfortable. You can specify front spring rates but the rear is only one option. I may go to a slightly stiffer spring up front as I use mine for hillclimbs and trackdays.
Speak to @MicKPM for prices.

Next step up is what I've gone for in my circuit racer. I chose AVOs at about £1100 from @pure-motorsport. I've not used the car yet but will see at Donington in just over a week (live on Motors TV all being well)

Top choice for Clios seems to be AST but you're over £1500 then.

Good luck at Donington, let us know how those AVOS perform.

The first ones have been replaced with a custom set. They were too long as they are more rally based. AVO replaced them for nothing so can't complain about that at all. I have only had a quick test at Curborough so only about 5 minutes worth but these do feel a lot better, than those I used at Donington (still managed 2nd place there mind) I'm at Silverstone in a fortnight for CTCRC Pre 05s again so we will see then. First impressions are good though.

Interesting, certainly positive customer care from AVO then although you mentioned you purchased via PMS, good to hear.
I might well be after something similar in spec, so when you say 'too long' where you using initially using something different to GTX8004's?

Willing to share figures ? ...PM ok too

Also, out of interest where do people go to for rebuilding/re-valving/servicing AST coilovers?
Yeah feel free to pm whats required spring rates/spherical bearing instead of the rubber bush.

Ive had all my kits done at ast, but theres loads of specialists etc that do it.

Sorry just seen this, they were the standard available from PMS. Other google pics look the same height. Won't be trying these at Silverstone, as I've decided not to risk any damage and put the car up for sale now.
