Traction control in 182 - turned it off and saw what the fuss is about!

i was under the impression the whole point of the unit was for ESP / TC but i could be wrong ?

From what I understand, the Racelogic system will reduce power to the engine (and therefore the driven wheels) when they sense slippage, but it will not brake any wheels (like a conventional ESP system will), so lift-off oversteer and understeer from entering a corner too fast will not be rectified by it.

Still an amazing TC system though - would definitely have invested in it if I still had my M Roadster.

i don't think i have traction control on my 172, its an 02(start of the year)!!! don't get the light come on but i do have esp. Also i can't turn the traction control off wiv the switch next to the dimmer as i don't have a switch :dapprove:

do you have a switch near the dash dimmer saying ESP?
as far as i understood all clios with traction control have ESP its all one package.

if anyone wants a demo of the racelogic system.... its really quite supprising...

the test with redline mag the other day proved intersting... the mag writer was unconvinced it was worth it, until he drove the car.....

in the poor weather I find it very usefull.

i mite be the first to get it done to a cup

never had it in any of my previous cars and to be honest it`s not something that i need, but in winter and with the GF driving it, it does give a bit of safety.

and i have found it useful a couple of times
all the people who turn it off every time they get in the car it makes me think what they are driving like on narrow B roads when they say it cuts in too much, unless they are rally or race drivers with lightning quick reactions ESP could stop them understearing into any oncoming traffic
(i am not saying anybody is a bad driver or can't control a car i am just expressing my views)

when its working to help save you it flashes. The more it works the faster the light and the more it comes on.

When you turn it off the light is on all the time.

I really should have read the manual more carefully, appears I've been turning it off every morning

I understand what you are saying but Tiff Needell can drive and he could not control the jag through the obstacles on the snow without ESP.

I always leave mine on, even had it swtiched on when doing my last track day. Only time I have ever needed to turn it off was when I was at Santa Pod. I couldn't get a very good launch with it on because it would just dump all the revs!

i think its pretty arrogant to go turning it off all the time because people think they are good drivers, real men whatever. you won't feel so clever when you get it wrong and slide off into a hedge or knock a kid over.

IMO if you're hooning round roundabouts and the ESP is kicking in then you probably shouldnt be driving like that in the first place! boring i know but better safe than sorry? time and a place etc...

It's so unintrusive during normal 'fast raod' driving it's best left on unless you're tracking IMO. I'm from the old school of hot hatches and always thought it would be crap when I bought the clio, but it's fine and only cuts in when you'd be burning rubber anyway.
