¼ Million pounds and 3000bhp worth of Clio hit Scotland

Every Easter for the last three years ClioSport have held a club holiday, filled with drinking, eating, and some crazy driving. Last year being a trip to Belgium along with a day trip out to the Nurburgring. The previous year was a trip to France including a track day.

This year we decided on Scotland. No track time this year but who needs a track when you have the roads that Scotland has to offer.

Starting on Good Friday with two initial meeting points, being Newport Pagnell services on the M1 and Warwick services on the M40. These two mini convoys then converged on meeting point three, Keele services on the M6, collecting yet more people that had headed straight to this meeting point. We waited here longer than planned to wait for one member that had ran out of petrol (oops) and another two (sharing a car) that had to have new tyres fitted that morning. We decided we could wait no longer for the kwik fit fitters and agreed they would play catch up. From there it was off to battle our way through Bank Holiday traffic which for most up until now hadn’t been a major problem and on to meeting point four, Carlisle services, to pick up the last two members. Those playing catch up caught us here as well. So from there the most expensive and most powerful Clio convoy ever (probably), 17 cars in all, headed for the roads of Scotland getting some looks and waves along the way.

Arriving at the hotel ahead of schedule at about 17:15 it was straight to the bar for a well earned drink (or a few) before sitting down to dinner and a good opportunity for the new faces to mingle with the usual suspects.

On Saturday we took in the sights of Edinburgh and the Forth Road Bridge before then splitting into two groups, one going on to visit Glenturret distillery, the oldest distillery in Scotland and makers of the Famous Grouse, the other going on to visit the Falkirk Wheel, the only rotating boat lift in the world. Back at the hotel more drinks were of course the order of the day before ClioSport taking over the local Pizza Hut.

PICTURES OF FALKIRK WHEEL HERE

Sunday was a day of driving the fabulous Scottish roads. For those that didn’t mind the mileage Fort William was the destination. Most of those that wanted to spare their cars jumped in for passenger rides and came along anyway. The route was fantastic with stunning scenery, taking in Loch Lomand and Glencoe along the way. The locals must have wondered what had hit them with a long line of Clios blasting past them at every given opportunity. The round trip to Fort William from our Hotel in Falkirk was 275 miles and was worth every penny that we spent in petrol.

Monday morning we set off for home and spent hours in the Bank Holiday traffic, but it was worth it for the fantastic three days we had just had.

Roll on next years trip for which we are planning the trip of a lifetime.
