Trophy #229: The Diary

  Many Things
It was wet yesterday, but I still tried to push it a little and handling is much improved over my old cup'ed 182. The biggest improvements are the speed you can turn in at, and it just goes where you want, body roll is very little too which suits me.

If your looking at a VRS because of fuel economy, the trophy averaged 39mpg yesterday. Did a little bit of motorway, a lot of twisty A road, and some town/traffic driving too.
I found the standard michelins to be superb in the wet on my old trophy. I've still got the cup you see which I cant comprehend selling, so will have to think it over

The trophy would temp me also. Depends what you're after though. The Fabia IMO is so easy to drive compared to the 1*2 and does return higher MPG.

I'll be following this thread, as I do like trophies.

Will pm you about the fabia mate

Mike, does yours have the wiper mod? If it doesn't I have a spare that I'll fit for you if you want? Or you can have it.

Also if you want it PC'ing...

Yes to both :D

Little update, welcome to the dirtiest engine bay in the world. This is a car that been main dealer looked after from new, by the same dealer, and its a right mess. Living on the coast won't have helped it.

Anyway, horrible K&N be gone:

One wanted add, a nice member, and £80 later, a lovely mint wheel :)

Wheel has transformed the inside of the car, the old manky one really drew your attention.

Bad bits are that I have discovered that the brakes are crap cold, they are fine after a few miles but this morning they wouldn't hardly stop the car. Just going to change the lot so its all done.

Looks like a lot of potential there.Steering wheel makes a big difference, good find as well there can't be many mint condition original ones about (without selling some internal organs to fund a new one from renault anyway).Im going to get mine retrimmed as its started to melt on one side and as you say it really draws your eyes to it.

Cheers Ross.

I've only just realised you have a Trophy now, shocked!

Changed the bonnet over today, and did the badges yesterday.

Looks a lot better, really coming together.

This picture was taken before I messed with the bump stops, so its looking a bit better now. Its still not 100% perfectly aligned but if you didn't know to look you wouldn't notice.

Are you putting the private plate on it Mike?

I (foolishly) gave my private plate away with the RB, but I now want it again, the current owner mentioned it the other day and I'm just waiting for her to get back to me.

If I don't get it back I might get a trophy plate. I was going to bid on some at the next auction but the amount you actually pay on top of the sale price is ridiculous tbh, so I'm not going to.

You plonker.

Glad you got it sorted Mike!

Looks like a bean to me though, although Red is so hard to photo right (my old GTI looked pink!) lol

Looking forward to seeing it in person.

I mentioned you getting another to Sarah and was instantly shot down about getting one back myself :(

Oh well.

Oh well.

Just buy one and turn up at home with it. Surely you could release a couple of £k from yours by swapping to a 1*2 which would certainly help towards a house ;)

Cheers, it certainly has been.

Hopefully will be sooner rather than later!

Just seems like an excuse for a mini meet to me with more photos Mike ;)

We must have one, yes! Lets wait for sunny weather though!

Small update, got a few deliveries today.

Got an engine cover off of here because I prefer the look of the engine bay with one on, also got some stainless bolts for it.

Got my m-tec lights, only lights I've come across that actually shine white. No idea on legalities as all the packaging is in japanese.

A used foglight, as mines smashed.

2 x pair of silver visions, the cheap ones. Always used these cheap ones and never had an issue with them! Not willing to pay the £12/£15 they want for them in the motor factors!

And some brembo HC discs and pads, don't need the pads as I've got some DS2500's instead now but hopefully selling these to a mate.

Still waiting for my rear discs and pads to come, got an eBay bargain with them! Brakes won't be fitted for a couple of weeks, as I won't get the DS2500's until next Thursday.

So just a few bits to tidy it up!

I lol'd when I saw the m-tech packaging, propper jap imports!

I may, may have a new car lined up ;)

Going to view tommorow.... So you might be seeing me back at some meets/drives soon!

Great purchase, mate... I'll be following your thread with interest! :D

I have the same issue you had in terms of the melting steering wheel. I really need to get it refurbed / retrimmed or replaced. It really spoils the look of the cabin space. I notice that you've decided to add an engine cover; I had one in red which I was considering selling. As I've gone down the ITB route I don't really need it and might see if anyone is interested in purchasing it soon.

Anyways - get those brakes sorted and enjoy! :D

Went to my uncles garage to reCat the trophy. Also gave him a hand servicing his V70 and we also had a look over my cousins Mini which needs a new clutch, we ran out of time though so decided to start that tomorrow.

First things first, get the fire on!

Then we hit a stumbling block, pit was full of water. Filled the special Hoover about 6 times before it got usable.

Brought it in, popped my engine cover on, a lot tidier!

Decat off, lambda sensor was cross threaded into it. Lots of heat and mashing up of the sensor and it came out. Appears to be working still though.

And wow, car is a lot quieter and even seems to drive better, don't know if that's possible? Much prefer driving the car with the cat on, so peaceful.

Also put my M-tec bulbs and silvervisions in, a lot better. Shine nice and white these, just like xenons, need to sort the sidelights though

Also fit my new passenger fog as the old one was cracked.

Looking good Mike!

You sorted that front left speaker?
I got a new head unit yesterday and noticed that Ste had put new speakers in (front and back). Nice of him :)

Nice motor. I always thought that the decat would free the revs up. It certainly did on my 172.
