Tuner list to update list...epic fail so far!

  Clio 172 Ph2
Hi all,

I was wondering if you could help.

Without realising i purchased an update list head unit to replace my tuner list. Mine didnt like to play CD's so i thought a direct replacement was in order.

After doing a search on here i realised they are not compatible.(epic fail!)

SO my question is...if i change the HU for one from the same model i purchased the update list will this resolve all compatibility problems...i.e. will my column controls funtion and speakers etc. I know the unit has more power but what other issues may i face?

Before anyone asks i know i could have bought an after market system but wanted to retain the standard.

Thanks in advance

Even with the replacement of the HU guys?

For clarity 3 out of the four connectors fit...i was guessing the fourth was related to the HU?

Is one for power, the other for speakers +&- out. I would have thought one for hand controls and the other for the HU?

I'm fully aware i may be completely wrong but some clever person out there please explain.

Thanks,

You will get power and audio but no display or stalks. Tuner list work on a resistive system, button input from stalks affects voltage and goes to display to replicate info then to the stereo ecu and back to the stereo.
Can bus works on a data system consisting of 1s and 0s like a pc interprets data. Specific pattern causes specific functions hence NO WAY OF SWAPPING.

Out of interest what would you have to change on the loom to make it work? Thanks for all the input so far by the way!

Also what after Market unit could be compatible with the stalk?

So the loom is the same. If I change the LCD display and wiring between will this change anything.

I'm sure you've had enough of my questions by now lol

You cannot do it, the system relates to everything in the car, you either have resistive or can, forget the idea, its not worth the time etc. what are you trying to gain out of it?

Just trying to understand now I have been defeated! Lol
What else on the car runs on this system? What system do aftermarket HUs work on?

Where can I read up on these two systems?

Why did you want to do it?
Aftermarket run on resistive but its never the same as oem and each manufacturer is different

google it, theres plenty out there about it

I already had the HU and being mechanical minded didn't see the larger picture in regards to the different protocol.

After a quick read the unit being updated enables it to function and read the same as other ECUs on the car.

So I'm guessing this would enable fault finding on the sound system and have volume based upon the cars speed?

yup thats the idea, with audi for example using something such as VCDS you can check each speaker line is working and complete-much easier than pulling apart the car to trace a cable that might or might not be an issue

Thanks for the help!

I was reading if you instal an aftermarket unit on VAG vehicles it could cause issues with fault finding equipment?... So much so that they would refuse to plug the fault finder in! It's cost the dealers a fortune in broken readers lol

thats post can bus, thats k-bus, its down to people buying poor quality brand audio which are not supplied with iso harnesses and then just plugging straight in, the powered antenna wire is on the k bus line on vag cars which with poor quality diagnostic equipment can cause them to blow

Do you have any of your special offer alpine units available? With iPhone connector and stalk connector? Please pm me with costs.

Cheers.
