tuning/re map

  clio sport 182 cup
im looking to get my clio sport 182 remap tuned. recently had a sport cat and mil tek exhaust fitted to it just wondering if any recommends how much bhp i should take it up to and where i should get this done. im situated in peterborough so cambridgeshire area.

if any body has software available and would be willing to do this privately let me know

first things first, nice to hear you have a milltek, i have one too lol decatted i was considering the sports cat but was abit expensive, so i went the cheap and louder way :). Anyway power gains, im not sure, all these cars differ so much, i would go to a proper company and have a dyno run before the remap and after the remap in one sitting then you can see what you have gained, secondly dont get your hopes up on a massive increase, your will genuinly find that the car will drive soo much smoother, plus you will also loose part of your 5000 rpm kick as its smooth trough out the rev range, i had mine done two weeks ago and it feels so much better, more miles to the gallon, and has cleared my flat spots, i would get it done at a tuning company rather than a guy pull up in a van an tell you his added 50bhp to your car. Where abouts are you from?

sorry mate you have stated where your from, bare with me im tired. im south east so some one else will be able to advise you fella

ok cool im looking to put it on a rolling road any how to see what it is at at the moment but wanting to get it to around 220 bhp to 240 bhp around that!! ive had a look at tour de force who heard some good things from recently in terms of re mapping but had a look online and they say that power gain would only take it up to around 195 ish.

Just seeing what other people have taken power up to and if it makes car run worse etc. whats ur car running at then????

  clio sport 182 cup
you'll need DEEP pockets, even 190 is £2K! 240bhp = £7K

Really :S cos been on to tour de force and looked on website and a remap to 195 is £300???? even on k tech racing webiste a remap on there stage 1 is £300 also.

A remap and exhaust will not get you 195 unfortunately mate.

Listen to what Fred is saying above, you need deep pockets to extract some extra horses from these engines!

where does it say that on their website? matt (TDF owner) would never claim that figure off a remap!

The way you are talking mate you make it sound like you can choose how much BHP you can get from a remap. It doesn't work like that and with all the fetteling in the world you will only be able to get what ever the maximum your car can produce with the modifications you currently have. As previous you need to listen to the advice given by Fred.

If you want the kind of power figures you are quoting then you need to be looking at internal engine work such as cam's, ITB's for instance !!!

Matt didn't have prices or power claims on his site last time i looked mate?

Firstly welcome:)

Sadly, there has been a general idea that has come from tuners who massively overestimate power gains for Clios.

Your 182 will have around 175bhp - the exhaut might have got you an exra few bhp, but no where near the usual 10 or so bhp that most list.

Next, check if you have had your cambelt changed - it should be every 5 years, and f it has been done check by who - you need locking tools to get the timing right - even Renault seem to get it wrong half the time - this will loose you bhp (and is half the reason why a lot of 172/182s have low power)

Next thing, a good exhaust, filter and map might net you 180-185bhp. You can have the inlet manifolds enlarged and matched (they come in two pieces) which will get between a few bhp and around 5 or 6bhp depending how bad they are.

Next step is either cams (expensive) or either throttle bodies (circa 2-2.5k) or turbo/supercharger (£££££££££££).

To get a genuine 220-240 bhp you will either need a turbo/supercharger or a very high spec engine with throttle bodies, cams, higher compression pistons - the list goes on.

As Fred has said, either way (Big normally asperated build or turbo/supercharger) will be a good £7000.

Ignore anyone who says you can get 220bhp from things like, exhaust and filter changes or remaps.

Hope that helps

cheers!!!

well ive recently had the water pump changed so the belt was done aswell!!!!

if im not going to be able to get a massive bhp gain from then thats cool. ive been looking at remap and the cams online just to get a rough idea of costings they dont seem to expensive online!! ive only just started to look at things like this as this is a first car so just going thru stage of getting the new exhaust and the sports cat. just cin what for value for money is best way to get be more bhp out of the car!!

what u recommended as best way then??? im not looking to do it on the cheap i want value for money but im not going to fork out 7k just for bhp like that as u would agree its a waste of money hahah

and sorry i was looking at wrong website when i said about tdf having costs online opoligise for that

It depends how much you want to go, a nice set of cams with a decent map can give great gains and make a good difference, and put you up to over a genuine 190bhp and that is a good chunk of power in a car weighing 1100kgs - plus it will still do 35mpg all day and behave in traffic - see Fred (BTM) and TDF for that :)

If you dont want to spend quiite that much (cams are a fairly big job to do) then a set of matched inlets with a decent enclosed filter and a decent custom map will make the car more lively and fun without draining too much cash.

In honesty though, id be looking at a set of decent springs and shocks (Eibach springs with Koni shocks is a great setup) with the brakes upgraded (See BTM's trader section in here for that - Fred does a good disc/pad combo thats a direct fit, so no messing about)

Combined with decent tyres will make 10 times the difference than engine mods

Definately check who did the timing mate - it is important it's been done right

ok cool i will do!!!

probs go down the route of cams a re map too see what that gets out of it!!! as said before need to get it on a rolling road first see what its at the decide what im going to do!!!!

K N filter previous owner changed that already. its run better since has water pump belt done and had the sports cat and new exhuast system fitted tho.

i have had the water pump and the belt done i now they have nothing linked together but i got the water pump acessory belt and the cam belt done also. ive had all of that changed recently as car is 05 plate and hadn't had this changed so this is why ive had all of that done

i was just after on advice on best way to get bhp so cheers for info

Hello mate its Rich.

As said before take it to TDF for a remap, no point spending fortunes trying to get big power from the n/a engine as it won't happen.

Who did the work for you on belts?

Hes exactly right! Don't expect much bhp gains from a n/a engine. Weight loss, brakes, suspension and tyres are a much better investment than performance parts.
