turbo clio

right here we go my first post on the site so hello everyone :)im currently driving my second r5gtt three years between the two and no probems never let me down, but they are a bit squeeky rattly just about every noise discovered comes from inside somewhere, anyway getting to the point:sleep: i love all the characteristis of the engine but am geting bored of the squeeks ive heard of these gt turbo into a clio convertions and was wondering if there is any sites or info people can give me on it :)like are the mounts the same or will i need to fabricate fresh obviosly wiring exhust and such like wil need sorting but what about the clearances in the bay and such like any helps appreciated as i will definatly be going ahead with it although if anyone can suggest a better conversion then im all ears although i think a f22 or x15 engines a bit out of the question though (mike & tom) :Dcheers

Do a search an itll answer everything you need.

I personally would stick with the GTT.

Or you could give it to me! :D

Theres certainly a lot of talk about GT Turbo conversions in Clios at the minute, but I would say youd prefer the real thing unless you put a GT Turbo lump in a shagged-engined Valver. A basic spec Clio obviously isnt going to be able to handle the GT Turbo power properly with a little bit of lowering, some big wheels and some grooved discs! Of course, its been done, but youd prefer the drive of your GT Turbo after youd done it all! If you dump the lump in a Valver though, youve got the wider tracks and uprated suspension/brakes etc already there. But unless youre planning radical tuning (which is obviously where a turbo wins), you might just want to try a Valver first. The Valver and GT Turbo - as standard - are more or less the same in terms of performance, with the GTT giving a bit on top speed, but clawing it back on the 0-60 sprint. If youre not planning to mod the thing, perhaps you should try a 16v first - the high revs kick can be just as addictive as the turbo boost.

so it only worth doing if you do it to a 16v so what are the other engine options? anything unusual been done it would be nice to have something a bit differant

There is a Twin turbo Rover V8 engined orange laguna rolling about....

had a problem with over boosting at 4000rpm with 450bhp and 450ft.lbs torque........

ren 21 turbo?

or Ren 11 turbo.....no, thats a step back from your 5....although i think they are fab!

ive heard of the 21 turbo in the 5s before one of the blokes i did my apprentiship with did it to his 5 what sort of gain can you get out of it ? it was so long ago i cant remember what he said about it

oh no my mistake it must have been the 11 turbo does that sound more like it ? it was years ago and i can barley remember last night (it must have been a good one then)

theres a cosworth powered R5GTT round our way but i think the lads written it off! Stupid really cos the money he must have thrown at it.........

LOL putting a 21 turbo lump in it would be a real mission. But people would bow to you for doing it though. Where youd fit that 2 litre I dont know!

Ive been in a few 5s and they do rattle like hell but to be honest if youre putting a GTT lump into a Clio to get rid of the rattles youll be disappointed. Its still a 90s Renault and still rattles! In fact youll see on this forum that even brand new Clios rattle and squeak!

Mines a last of the line Mk1 (R-Plate), and I think it came with special edition rattles to celebrate the discontinuation of manifacture! LOL

Ive got both cars, and apart from the obvious signs of age in the 5s interior, there is not much between them. I think on just the quality of drive I might just prefer driving the clio. But the 5 wins on smile factor!

Im planning the engine conversion into the Clio though. Going to get the Clio ready first with a set of coilovers, and bigger wheels (16s) to accomadate some big brakes.... Then it will be all systems go, a street sleeper with 1.2 badges on the side!

Tim

Lol!!! yep they invented some new rattles for me 2001 clio!

Like the street sleeper idea! I want to modify my engine like hell, problem is i have to learn a lot first! Oh and save.

I dont really even want big wheels on (would like to keep my 15s) but I dont think Id feel safe with big power and 1.2 brakes LOL.

Id love to learn how to do a lot of the work myself, but Im just pathetic at cars, and dont have time patence to learn...

Tim

Hehe, Same car as me.. Mk1, Phase3.. I found what the special edition rattle was tho! A bolt lying in my roof lining - wouldnt have found it tho if my sunroof hadnt leaked.. hah.
