  Mk2 1.4 s
was thinking of possibly turboing my car i dont know if i can :s im driveing a 2000 1.4 sport (Ino ive taken all the stick already) does anyone think its possible .........possibly take the turbo from a 2000 dci if thats even possible abit of a newby question but hey wont know if i dont ask

Thanks all

I'm no expert but I would say that it would be extremely difficult if not impossible. A turbo works by using the expelled exhaust gasses from the engine to turn a turbine which in turn forces more air and fuel back into the cylinders. etc etc. I'd sell it and by a bigger engined car if you want more power. There are plenty of other tweeks you can do to the engine to make it run with more torque or power but again you need the know how and the equipment.

What sort of power are you going for?

Without strengthening the bottom end you not going to get big power which makes the cost of the conversion unfeasible.

The cost of ph1 or even ph2 172 these days you'd be better getting one of them as then you have 170bhp out the box.

Please don't say you won't get insured for one as you wouldn't get insured for a custom turbo 1.2 either then.

What kinds of tweeks do u recommend

well when I said that, I meant quite complicated tweeks like shaving the smaller end of the camshaft lobes to allow more fuel and air in lol.. not something that's easily achievable. most newbies start by putting a better induction kit on, you could maybe look at a forced induction. A less restrictive exhaust. There's loads to be done, have a look at some project threads and see what ideas you can incorporate on ya own car :)

What sort of mods needed to run a turbo on a non turbo car?

Lower the compression ratio somehow is a good start.....matching a suitable sized turbo to the engine....specially re-designed exhaust manifold and down pipe.....turbo oil feed and return...extra coolant pipes if the turbo unit is cooled that way......some mapping etc, etc.

Surely it's just not worth the hassle or the potential cost of any significant modding on an engine not really built for purpose? As said above though, ph1 172s are hanging around £1200 mark in fairly good condition. It would be faster, would look better and your upgrading the interior, exterior, as well as the engine.

so your wanting to do a turbo conversion but are asking very very basic questions. Be honest with yourself.. even if we do actually give you all the info you need are you ever going to even attempt this.. or even have the funds for it ?

threads like this pop up regular from dreamers and tbh i dont think one has ever been done.

  Clio 1.6, 172, DCI
you can turbocharged that engine and have more power than the 172 with more or less the same money
