Type R forum

Just noticed on the civic type R owners forum that the more posts the members make, the better car they own (virtually) ie the number of stars they have increases and the model of honda they supposedly have the privalege of owning goes up - for example when u join u get a Honda Jazz 1.4 SE, and then someone with 1000 posts has a Honda NSX, whereas over 500 posts gets u Civic Type R status - I think thats pretty cool! over 172 posts on here and u could be promoted to a 172, and new members could get a Twingo or Renault 5 Campus etc?

I know, but I suppose its a way of having a bit of one - something you can only control by posting loads? It seems to work well with the Type R forum - there is obviously a hierarchy though - they get to have a AVATAR (pic of their choice) in their profile - I think this is a good idea!

What about letting us a max of 800x800 Pic in the coloum under our star rating - we could all have pics of our car our bits of our anatomy if some felt inclined?

Youd need 100x75 really.. to be sensible.

Sorry , yeah - they can use a max size of 80x80 pixels with a file size no bigger than 6KB............doh!

Takes longer to load tho. Not a problem if youve got broadband but youve got to stick with the lowest common denominator, in this case the people on MODEM dial up. Still, if you dial up boys are prepared to wait for it all to load..............

Its not too bad. They all cache after first load if they have a static url.. so you download them once, and then they change when they change. a 6k avatar is probably going to take 2 seconds on a dial-up connection..

I suppose if you were very strict on the size of the images, it would be less of a problem. Not everyone caches their images tho, and if you clear out all your temp files etc on a regular basis, your going to have to download them again.

They only a max of 10kb.. its nothing.. and think of all the happy people with Avatars!

You could even have an option, where you can turn them off if you want - so any certain username can stop them showing! Now theres an idea!

The option to turn it off is a good idea, would take a bit of thinking to get it to work properly but Im sure it would be possible.

Im sure its possible. If you can turn it off globally, per user account should be possible.

Per user would be good, then if you dont want one you dont have to have one. Should be possible, this forum may even be able to do it... is it an out-of-the-box forum or a custom creation, ?
