tyre pressure measurements

ok, settle an argument please, which is more accurate -

a) digital readout on tyre inflator

b) metal gauge


i generally find there is a 4psi discrepancy between these, with the gauge reading lower. now i'm wondering if i was driving around with over-inflated tyres because i favoured the metal gauge, as the wear on them seems to imply. seeing as tyre pressure makes a significant difference in handling on the clio i want to get this right from the start!

If there that much of a decripancy I'd buy another gauge they shouldn't differ much at all.

I'd be more inclined to use the digital one.
