Tyre wear shock!

Car  172 Cup
Noticed the car was feeling a bit wobbly on the way home from work, thought it might just be a strong motorway sidewind. Get home and turns out it was a rear passenger side puncture. Not a massive bother, got the day off tomorrow anyway to get it sorted...

So decided to take the wheel off tonight, ready for the morning. Before I took it off I had a quick check of the tyre thread - still plenty on it. Or so I thought!

Once the wheel's off I look at the inside sidewall of the tyre and boom! There's the problem. Surprised this didn't blow while I was on the motorway. Very lucky!

Gone through the rubber, canvas and wire.

Looks like it could have been rubbing the inside wheel arch. No problems on the other side though, which is slightly worrying! Could be a tracking issue :dapprove:

pirellis, goodyears and dunlops all mishape once the tread gets below 3mm. i do tyres for a living annd see allsorts all day long!

If it's gone that bad in a month there is something wrong somewhere.

Certainly has, the investigation is underway. Going up on the ramp very shortly!

Did you not hear / smell burning?

Nothing to indicate this! Difficult to hear anything untoward with all the 'normal' rattles of a 172 Cup. And no smell of burning plastic or rubber. Guess the only way to tell would have been to notice it while checking the tyres, by a puncture, or by a blowout while driving. I'm glad it wasn't the last option!
