Uch ecu DIY job?

  Audi A3
Evening all!

Had a headache recently with my Uch, it's broke. Bought an entire set of ecu, Uch and key fob off a 2002 172 (mines 03) which I've been told will fit fine as a straight swap.

Lad at renault is doing it for me as a foreigner but doesnt need to plug it in to any config machines he said.

Does this mean if I did it on my drive, I'd just need to change over the ecu, Uch and use a different key fob and all would work fine? Or is it bit that easy?

Cheers guys and girls!

Yeah plug and play if you've got the correct keys for it mate. Not a quick job though unless you know what you're doing

As Jonny said, if you have the matched setup its plug and play... the clips holding the UCH in though can be a rate "See You Next Tuesday" mind.

So along as I've got the ecu, Uch, and matching key fob it'll work? Dont have to arse round with key decoders or plugging to into electrical config machines etc?

Hardest part the brackets? Thank you all

Exactly, just keep the original blade from the original keyfob

Got the key barrel, but leaving my original in and using my original key blade.

Do I need the decoder though?

The decoder is the UCH. If you mean the imobiliser ring around the barrell, no you dont.

back to front mate. Immobiliser is in the UCH, decoder ring surrounds the barrel. Decoder sends the info from the key to the UCH which emits a code to the ECU to fire.

Jonny, from that that you've just said though, can I just use the decoder ring that's on the car currently ?

Thanks, really appreciate your help, and everyone who's commented on this topic! I'll let you know how it goes!

I can see where your coming from but thats not the way renault word it. The sole perpose of the immobiliser ring is to "exite" the key chip by using an electro magnet and the key code is recieved by the ring and sent down to the UCH/decoder.

The UCH then decodes the signal and verifys it is the correct one.

Sounds about right for Renault. The immobiliser is 100% in the UCH unit though. Whether or not its called decoder or immobilier ring, it basically sends the key code to the UCH.

Hi I know its been over a year now but I would like to know how it went changing the UCH?
was it strait forward?
many thanks

with regards to everything working, then yes it was quite straight forward and everything went as it should.

fiddly to fit for me, but im far from a mechanic.

Hi - I am going to attempt this hopefully this weekend.

I have sourced second hand: ECU UCH 2 keys and the barrel.

can i ask did you just swap the uch, ecu and the key fob of the key - kept the blade so it goes in the barrel and door etc? Did the new key fob work with the old decoder ring around the ignition barrel?

Not looking forward to the fiddly bits!

Thanks.
