Un-cup'd 182 lowering options

  tiTTy & SV650
Not interested in just springs, the standard shocks are bad enough with standard springs (in terms of failure) so I'm not lowering it without changing the shocks too.

What shock and spring options exist? Must give a decent ride...

What coilover options are there for un-cup'd 182's?

Will mk2 172 / 172 cup stuff fit? I know 182 cup'd / cup stuff won't fit...

  tiTTy & SV650
yeah I know H&R are meant to be great, nice ride yet superb handling but i aint wanting to pay that much...

Guess it depends on how much you want to spend, if you got dampers and some eibachs then you'd have to accept they wouldnt drop much and if you went apex that the ride would be harsher than standard and the same would go for the cheaper coilover options from the terrible GAZ to the better but still fairly harsh FK's

the roads around here are terrible in terms of potholes etc but I need handling, stiffer than standard is a must, not looking to make the car any worse obviously. I love my b-roads

Ive got Eibach Sportline springs on std dampers and Ive gone through 3 before they were fitted so i prob looking to upgrade the shocks too at some point. Would be interested to here comments.

  182
My comments to this post is on 2 occasions ive tried to have the Koni 172 dampers fitted to my non cup 182 and both times it has come back as being different.
Both BBPT and Elite in essex have had a look at my 182 non cup and on both occasions have said they do not fit, same as BBPT non cup 182... Good luck Rory would be very interested in hearing your efforts with this..

what aspect of them doesnt fit? Is it the distance between the fixing holes? I see bilstein B14 PSS specify this as 54mm

its the angle of the holes i belive, its yet to be confirmed, i have a customer wanting suspension for his 182 NC, i'll get a 182 C in at the same time and compare them

cool, I've asked the reno panel of experts - they'll tell me to piss off probably lol

would turning one hole into a slot and leaving one as is be an issue you think Fred? Shove some anti shake proof washers in there or something to stop it moving in the slot?

Tigthen the bolt up enough and the slackness doesn't matter. 100NM standard from memory so 150 to be doubles safe I used 110 or so and it wasn't a problem.

cool, cheers

camber set up using camber correction bolts? Any disadvantages to this? will it void the warranty on the newly purchased expensive suspension?

  tiTTy & SV650
cool cheers, there's a very small market for it but a few folk would like to know I think...

Fred I cant wait for you to look into this, someone elses view on the whole issue.. I still dont feel convinced by my experiences because Ktec clearly lists it as being ok to fit them, thats why I went to 2 places.

Bbpt who I went to see first had my wheel off etc and measured the angles said it was slightly different same as there nc 182.

Elite in rainham essex took a code from 1 of my shocks and contacted Koni with it to hopefully match it to the code for the 172 shock, came back different so again would not fit???

They did point out though that my shocks had KYB written on them somewhere which apparently is some japanese make???? They seemed shocked by this, just confused me more....

I'd like to know this as well, although i personally am happy with the stock setup, but its not going to last forever, and i wouldnt mind a bit of lowering when the time comes.

  tiTTy & SV650
I contacted a local modding place who deal with Tein, H&R, Bilstein etc, they said all they needed to know:

the vertical distance between the two mounting holes (centre to centre)

and

the horizontal distance from the base of the strut to the lower mounting hole (centre to centre).

Renaultsport's panel of experts havent replied yet.

Apparently: Eibach list their Pro-kit springs and Pro-Dampers for un-cup'd 182s & H&R list both spring/dampers or coilover units

Rory before I was gonna get the koni shocks fitted I wanted to eibach pro dampers to match the springs I have fitted bbpt ordered some for me which turned out they dont fit the 182 the holes were to small so not compatible for the 2.0litre version....
The angle of the bolt holes matter other wise the camber of the wheel will be out.

  tiTTy & SV650
yeah the angle of the holes matters I can see that but it's not angles they talk in is it? they talk vertical and horizontal distances?

  182
Whats needed really is an elongated whole at the top of the shock for them to fit, looking at the FK coilover kit on ktec website the top bolt hole has this so mimagine they should fit????

  tiTTy & SV650
ok the FK has what I was getting at at the start of the thread, a hole and a slot as rwaterman has pointed out.

  tiTTy & SV650
Ktec also say the H&R's to suit a 182 suits all 182's, is this due to their built in camber adjustment? And how does that work?

If the holes have enough give in them your ok they've have to have a load though 54m to 60mm the different hubs are that a lot maybe with camber bolts.

was all set to attempt to fit Koni adjustable dampers with some sportline springs, contacted Koni and they replied:

Thanks for your detailed information on the Renault Clio range. We do not recommend to fit our dampers with camber correction bolts because we had never tested those dampers on this car and we only recommend it if it both fits well and drives well. We are busy producing the dampers for the 182 series 2.0 16V suspension and hope to have them ready anywhere next year. Hope you bring up the patience for this.

Best regards,
