Under Body Engine Cover / Gearbox Cover

I just removed this bout 10 mins ago and sussed that my gear selector was hitting the under car cover.. it was actually hitting the foam bubbly plastic bag like, what sits inside the cover, now ive removed this, what problems will arise ?

Im guessing its to stop water from getting in and messing the underbody engine up , or its to protect the plastic cover from melting from the engine ??

Help ?

In basic the wrapping that sits inside the underbody cover has being removed .

Is this ok ? Anyone else done this

when you say bin the cover, which one, the one ive just removed ? it sits inside the actual plastic cover itself ? like a noise reduction / oil catcher / splash / water proof thingy lol

bin the entire thing, odd its catching, you checked the linkage is tight?

i ouldnt know how to check the linkage is tight? i did put some multi-purpose grease on it so its a bit smoot and selecting etc...

How do i check this linkage ?

13mm nut on the linkage tube where it meets the rod on the box

^ yes very easy, its right under the gearbox, cant miss it fella

sits at a bit of an angle, its a clamp kinda thing with a 13mm nut

how would i tell if its loose? lol , just basicly just see if it ajusts more ?

I've completely removed it...

Lost some weight too! LOL

That foamy plastic covered bit was saturated with oil and sand!
Jetwashed it, kept the cover only, it's hanging next to the plastic engine cover.
