Uneven disc wear

What could be causing this? The pads apparently aren't contacting the inner face properly on both front discs. Both discs and pads were replaced last year with genuine Renault items and have only done around 1000 miles so I'd assume the issue isn't them being worn out

Slider pins are a bit corroded but I just put that down to the car being sat for a few months, not sure how long this issue has been happening though. I'll get some replacements ordered and hope it solves it 👍
 
Bigg Red kits are brilliant.
Have used other and they suck massive amount of dick, but the stuff from Bigg Red is great.

They do pistons too, if the car has done decent miles, get a piston in.

Just over 100k and they appear to be the original calipers.
 
I bought this kit and I'm pretty happy with it. Amazing the difference it makes with new everything.

Even comes with new pins for the pads, in case you have to saw the old ones out like I did :-(
 
This car is driving me mad. I replaced the rear drivers side caliper about a month ago and everything was fine (apart from the handbrake but that's a different issue). Drove home and checked the disc and it was beautiful and shiny.
Parked the car up for a while and the discs obviously went a bit rusty, but no big deal because obviously that would rub off next time I went for a drive.... Or not as it turns out 🙄

It looks like the pads are barely contacting half the disc, but they were making full contact before. I think I can rule out sliders and piston as it was a brand new caliper, so why is this happening? It's the same on the inside of the disc as well but it was awkward to get a photo.
All the other discs cleaned up fine, and the pedal is nice and firm so I'm pretty sure it's not leaking fluid from anywhere, and there's no wetness on the caliper where the brake line connects.

I'm starting to think I should just give up and take it to an adult to fix 🤣😭
 
Probably a silly question, but how freely should the pads move when they're in the carrier? Should I be able to shake them around like a pair of maracas, or should I have to push them to make them move?

I might whip the carriers off and check the pads are still moving or if they've seized. I remember them being quite stiff but it might be worth filing them down a little bit just in case. Might even swap the clips over while I'm there 🤣

Clips at the top and the angled bit of metal wedge at the bottom.

In my defense, the lights aren't ALWAYS on. So presumably for the first 10-15 minutes each day the ABS etc is working 🤣

I hope everybody's keeping count of the issues...

1. Sporadic warning lights
2. Handbrake doesn't work on right side
3. Right side isn't working as well as the left side
 
What calliper did you fit? I bought a pair of Chinese ones originally for mine (ebay £100 the pair) and they were f**king diabolical dogshit. I replaced them with a pair of Pagid callipers I believe which have been fine in the 100miles its been driven over the past 3 years. But quality was way up on the eBay ones.

Having a seized handbrake cable might not be doing to any favours if the handbrake mech is slightly applied on one side?

Ridex, highly recommended by everyone on here and it now matches the passenger side which has no issues. The cable isn't seized, it just doesn't pull the handbrake on that side 🤷🏻

Edit: it BARELY pulls the handbrake. It actuates the lever, just nowhere near hard enough to actually stop the wheel spinning. There is some resistance at the top of travel though.
By contrast the passenger side starts engaging after 1 click
 
I seem to remember them having a Y cable bracket after the handbrake lever where each of the rear cables attaches and mine was badly bent so one side wasn't doing much.... I am fairly certain it was the Clio but it might have been a different car... maybe worth looking at though?

Are the brake alright otherwise though? Does the car stop properly without pulling to either side?

Yeah braking seems fine, I've tried braking hard with hands off and it brakes in a straight line.

I've got a new handbrake cable to fit if I ever get over my fear of being under a car on jack stands. Almost managed today but it started snowing as I left the house 🤣
 
My OSF pads were doing this when I was just driving it back and forth to the yard. Now I’m using it as a daily, it’s got even wear.
 
Decided to brave the snow today and pulled the pad carrier off. Outside pad was seized solid and had to be smacked out with the back of a socket wrench, and the inner pad wasn't much better.

Filed them both a little bit until they just moved freely, and refitted the metal bar thing and anti-rattle clips the correct way round.

Unfortunately due to combination of the fact the car is technically uninsured and the bad weather I was unable to take the car for a test drive, but I feel pretty confident the brakes will work properly next time.

Having said that, I was curious about something so I pulled the handbrake on 1 click and to my surprise the disc wouldn't spin. Pulled the handbrake on all the way and it held firm enough for me to torque the back wheel up!

The downside to this is that I almost certainly wasted my money on an unnecessary caliper, and a new handbrake cable. The upside is that my rear calipers are a matching pair now and I've got a spare handbrake cable and caliper in case something else goes wrong.

Oh, and my boot refused to lock when I'd finished. Classic.
