Uninstalling XP

  Bumder With A Buffer
I brought a PC that i think had a "Good" ; ) copy of Xp installed.

I want to get rid of it and install bullet xp so i can fast boot it but i am getting the following message

Setup cannot uninstall Windows XP because the necessary registration information is missing

How the hell do i uninstall it!!!??!! I have read this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313859

and it makes no sense what so-ever to me!!

A pointer in the right direction would be cool!!

yup its a reformat job, back in the old days you made a floppy with a DOS partition tool called fdisk which nuked your disk... ;)

crap there's no other way?? Can you reformat without a floppy (no puns!!) as i dont have one!

  none :(
have a look here mate, basically you need to fdisk it...i.e delete EVERYTHING then delete master boot record, set up a new partition etc etc

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255867

if you need help give me a shout, i'll try and help (i worked in a pc repair shop a few years ago for work experience;))

think the commands are...

get to command prompt (restart computer and randomly hit F8 or F7, if one dont work try the other :p and you wanna choose the option that has '..with command promtp' in it)

fdisk
delete primary partition
then i think you choose option one all the time
it formats
press escape to reboot
type fdisk/mbr
reboot
turn off
put in winxp cd
install

but dont quote me because i messed up the options you choose once and fucked a rich mans to spec pc right up :clown:

i think most of that is correct, if not its a step in the right direction :)

Pfftttt sorted now!!

Burnt BulletXP as an iso image on this PC. Set my bios to boot from cd, re-formated and installed BulletXP. That wasn't as painfull as i thought!!

I would be very very very surprised if BulletXP was a legal product.

It is after all just a stripped down version of Windows XP. Which you have to buy.
