Updating the firmware on a N73 ?

I've just read an old thread on how to do it , I assume that it will elliminate the crap running process of the phone if I update it ??

I've never updated firmware on a phone before, so I don't really get what it does:eek:

If I update it will it just make it run a bit faster & stop it from freezing up. I won't lose anything will I ?

Sorry for the questions, I don't usually bother with this stuff.

There is an update thread pinned at the top of the tech section, however;

You need to backup and then restore after the update.
The Nokia system cannot update without wiping the phone. (Unless its OTA)

It will in most cases run much much better.

(OTA = over the air)

should make a nice difference. Usually speeds things up, free's a it more memory, fixes a few bugs and often adds the odd new feature or improves camera quality.

Worth doing as the early firmwares are usually buggy, and branded firmwares are just sh1te full stop!

nokias are usually good improvements, but I did it on my SE k800i. Went form one of the earliest formwares to the latest, and its actually worse now lol.

Definitely works a treat, its night and day difference.

I have to be honest before doing this I was ready to sell the phone due to the hassle I was getting from it.

Afterwards it does everything it should of done from the word go.

If you have a memory card in the phone then goto the application for it (Tools/Memory/Options) and you can backup the phone there.

You don't need to worry about over the air, update it using the supplied cable.

I have been trying to upgrade the firmware on my N95 since April but not been able to. Spoke to T Mobile to advise them and also advised them about the fact that the phone freezes twice a day at least and the battery needs removing in order to get it working again. Also the phone switches off every day and restarts.
Needless to say a replacement phone is on the way. I have heard a few nightmare stories relating to the N series Nokias..

1) Install Nokia pc suite.
2) Connect phone (Make sure you install the mms sync app on the phone)
3) Backup phone contents to pc.
4) Run software updater (This will tell you what version of software is on you phone and the latest one that is available to download)
5) Download and install new firmware
6) Go back into pc suite, restore back to phone.

Sorted.

If you have a local nokia shop , just take it there . They will update the firmware for free . At least if somethin fcuks up they'll have to sort it :)
