Urgent Help..172 with 182 gearbox

basically my 172 FF has a 182 gearbox in..previous owner never mentioned it and im now in need of a drvieshaft for the front nearside..Renault are a waste of space and cant help me, i hope someone on here can. basically i need a driveshaft and the one i purchased for a 172 from a breakers dont fit the mechanic said, the shaft i have at mo the C.V has 30 splines and the cups on cv are too big for the gearbox i have, the mechanic said to get 30spline cv joint for a 182 with smaller cups. recieved that from renault and cups are same size..

So do i need a different internal cv joint with less spline or what..i dont have a clue anymore im finding it impossable to get the correct part. the internal cv joint i got from renault bolton matched uo with the part number i got from the 182 gearbox tho it dont fit.
mechanic said sommat do with it fitting the hubs also...
if anyone can make sence of this then please help me....
at the moment i dont have the money to get a gearbox for a 172

i believe with a 182 driveshaft and traction control they dont fit a 172, the mechanic said the 172 driveshaft he has will fit its just the internal C.V joint doesnt fit the gearbox or sommat.. im ready to give up

If its a JC5 130 you have a choice of 2 driveshafts

no i dont have the old driveshaft ..long story.. a 182 has traction control right? if so they wont fit... also mechanic said they need fit into the other side ( wheel side i persume) are the 172 and 182 driveshafts all the same on this side?

You 100% sure its a JC5 130 ? - have you seen the code ?

yes the mechanic read the code to me to take to renault..and renault gave me this part 7701056850 which is a internal CV joint..(which doesnt fit) and said that matches up to the 182 gearbox

there are 3 multiteeth splines available for the 182

30 teeth 7701056850

There are over 20 different n/s shafts for the 172 / 182 in total

i thought i had the right driveshaft a 172 one..which has a spline of 30. so if the 30spline cv jont dont fit into the gearbox then neither could be right?! as there is only 1x30 spline cv joint.... so am i right in thinking i need to track down the correct driveshaft part number find out how many splines are on the cv then hope and pray its either a 22 or 29 spline? is that right matt?

Going off a standard 182 ( non trophy ) the 2 numbers i gave you above should do the job. Personally i would go for the non trophy shaft but be careful as renault dont take the parts back.

So does the inner part of the shaft not fit the gearbox and the outer part of the shaft not fit the hub ?

Other alternative is bring the car to me and i will fabricate or match a drive shaft up for you and fit it for £150

inner part doesnt fit the gearbox mechanic said the spines fit but the cups dont he said... Is it true that the cv's only come on a driveshaft and that youcant get them seperate..like the cvs are attached to the shaft. i have done a search and thats what some are saying also northwest propshafts also said same. they said renault dont do cvs on their own for a CS.

also i was told traction control on the 182 ,if that is right then i was also told the driveshafts are different..

Well first of all i would check all my shafts to see if i could find one that will fit - if not one of our mechanics will get a standard 172 shaft which matches your hub and then remove the CV joint ( they do come off but Renault dont sell them seperate ) and i will match an inner CV joint to the JC5 130 cv cup.

FMP why have you bought a 182 box? whats wrong with your 172 one.. i remember youfrom saxo sports club..Oops i think i said that out loud lol..

From what i have heard there are a few people on here who have late 172's with 182 gearboxes id love to know what shafts they have

nothing wrong with the one in there, just the 182 box i picked up is far lower milage.

Thought i would change it as car is gonna have a hard time next year with track days etc.

was you told the 182 box would fit in a 172? my car has a o/s shaft in fine its the nearside im struggling to get hold off, a new 172 driveshaft is being fitted to garage tomorrow in hope of it fitting i will let youknow if they fit.. im not holding my breath tho

i had a 182, then sold it for a Impreza STI Spec-C, which i only had a few months, cos it was a total piss take on fuel.

So picked up a 172.

I didnt ask if the 182 box would fit, as i just pressumed it would. And the guy i bought it off bought it for his 172 as far as i am aware, just never fitted it.

Think i will try my drive shafts in it before i bolt it on!!!

tho it came with the invoice he got for it and he paid just over £300 for it
