Right i belive i may have put a hole in my radiatior.....

And this was it this morning when i checked.....

The car hasnt moved since last night, and there is no signs of it leaking?

Any coments?

  don't

fill it up, start car, wait and watch underneath, 1 of my cars only used to leak when car was at full temp

also get urself a little rad sealent and add that to the water, should stop the leak :)

i used to use eggs on my last car, every 2 weeks put an egg in the rad filler bit, worked wonders lol, did it for ages until i got rid of the car :)

That is an expansion tank? It may not be leaking anywhere, maybe just doing that uppy downy thingy.

Technical I. :)

But why would it sink to way below min level? When it was at half a tank two days ago????

Another thing to check is that all the host clips are done up tightly, after all if sh*t for brains at lookers replace engine wiring for your non start problem its possible theyve moved something.

Lots of air in the system maybe? have you tried filling it again to see if it still drops?

Are there any garages near you?

This happened to me...The level of fluid was just above half when the car was running...

When i stopped checked it again 10 minutes later and it had risen up again by quite a bit.

I assumed the missing few cm of fluid where still in the "system" somewhere, circulating or sumthing..?

Mine is leaking as well going to go se them this afternoon.

Its been on test twice and they cannot find whats wrong.

Im thinking its just a loose connector on the botom of the radiator as this is where the liquid seems to appear from have a look under the front bumper and see if the coolent is hanging round that area.

Blink 172 i know what your saying but this is my fault....

John how can it be the head gasket?

And ill try and check all of the conections tonight pete, it has only started to happen since i got it bk so may well be, Or it could just be a coincedance (sp!!)

And edde the 172 have the gay plastic surrounding around it all!!!! Have to dis mantle the car!!!! : (

This is just standard coolant expansion. When the car is hot, the system is pressurised and the level will go up. When the system cools down, the pressure dissipates, and the coolant level will go down.

Keep your eye on it though, if it gets below MIN, then take it in......

if your radiator was cracked, at the coolant pressure these engines run at, you would have no coolant whatsoever, plus lots of steam and warning lights.

im sure its just normal that the level will rise with pressure when its been running?

i noticed in my 172 that the level was up and down when it went for a service

dont worry if u can see a leak!

or maybee try a tiny bit of rad weld if u think uve put a small hole in

i did that on my 20vt biza and it worked!

Ok maybe it is the momkeys at reno lol, ill have a good look tonight.... Thanks for your help so far guys

Im just back from Renault and they agreed it must be leeking (sort of obvious when you see the stuff is everywhere over the front of the bumper).

Mine has a decient sized dent on the radiator but Im sure it was leaking before them. However they confirmend that theyll only replace it if Renault agree and so will cover all costs if Renault dont agree they will charge me the labour (at £55/hr + VAT). So Im stuck realy what to do.

Ive got plan though, just got to see how much it will cost.

I had a water leak on a megane, took it in and they couldnt find it.
All they had done is a static pressure test, turned out it was the water pump and it only leaked when it was up to temp and running. Therefore it only leaked out on the road were you couldnt tell, so no puddles on your drive.
Just a thought.

What the engine temp like? up or down or the same as normal?

Try - Taking the lid of the resovoir run the car up to full temprature, the any air will be out!

worth a try

the temp is same as normal fella........ i opened it up adn a huge air bubble came out, and it hasnt gone down as of yet? Could have just been the level moving up and down cos there was air in the pipes? Only time will teel aye?
