I am looking for one where the switch cannot be overridden by software. Can anyone recommend one that doesn't cost the earth? Looking for 8GB upwards if possible.

Already found that from a SANS article I was reading. I was having trouble finding a reputable seller in the UK that was selling them/in stock.
Really don't mind on the make as long as the write protection works properly and cannot be overridden!
Had a look for the PQI, Kanguru and the Imation. I couldn't find the models available though that they were talking about

I know you probably have a specific reason for wanting a hardware write protection switch, but couldn't you just use filesystem level write protection ?
I know you said no overwrite by software but you didn't state why, if it's so the user cant change it then surely they can still just flick the switch if they really want to ?
