Valver gearbox popping out of 2nd?

My gearbox has recently started the annoying habbit of pulling itself out of 2nd.

It only does it in 2nd, and it will only happen if youve been trailing on and off the throttle, if your foots down it wont do it. Youll be going round a roundabout in second, off and on the gas to trim your speed then suddenly the revs will rise to around 3k and you'll have no drive. It sort of pulls itself into the position inbetween neutral and 2nd.

Is this is relatively common problem that can be fixed or is it new box time.

The odd thing is, im pretty sure it had a re-con box put in not long back before i got the car.

Any ideas?

Is it starting to make a whining noise as well?

If you turn off the stereo and stay very very quiet theres a very faint whining in 2nd yeh

If it starts to get louder ure box is fcked

mine jumps out of 2nd and has done for some time. it also makes the loudest whirring noise in the world lol does it in all gears tho. i know the box is dying but its lasted a lot longer than i thought it would. just got myself a willy box tho which im gonna get refurbed. have a good listen to the end of this vid, as the car coast down you can here the box crying lol

One box I had lasted about a week after the whining, by then it wouldn't stay in 5th at all and was hard keeping it in 4th.

Another box lasted about a mile after it started popping out of 2nd, no whining just went, lost drive and oil came out

The whining is very quiet and it only does it in 2nd.

Oh well. How much would it cost to get a new box put in?

Ask over on retro-renault.co.uk as I've heard over there about some common problem with second gear before and a lot of boxes were missing some sort of part inside the box. IIRC they can go on for ages like that but as I say if you do a search over there it should show something.

i had the same on my 21,000 mile valver, lasted something like a good 20k more.
