Valver head work........

  Looking for a ph-quick...
Right, the time has finally come to fit my gas flowed head and cams!!!! I was wondergin what sort of power i should be looking at after a re-map??

So once all fitted engine spec will be.......
- Hill power stage 1 ECU chip
- Ported and polished cylinder head
- Re-ground cams
- Standard airbox with ITG filter
- Decatted full Magnex exhaust with centre box removed

Didnt want to get my hopes up too high as i know these valver engines can be stubborn, but any quicker than it is at the moment is a plus!
SO what sorta power should i be looking at AFTER an ECU remap?? Gonna go to hill power for this as its not far away!

cheers
Amir

You should be nearer 160 I would have thought as I am running 148 with just Magnex inc Decat, BMC CDA and BBPT superchip. Maybe more now with a supersprint manifold but not rr ing again just to see with 2 litre imminent.

Would have thought headwork and cams would see you to the extra 10bhp or so but BBPT did say my engine was on par with a cammed/headworked one they saw from another tuner and minewas lesser modded.

Strange how the same engine can respond difrently to mods. Mine seems like its pretty quick anyway, i do intend to willy bottom end it eventually. But wanted to see what i can do with the 1.8 maybe a turbo???

The 1.8 can made decent power, you just need to push the rpm seriously and address the problems with the stock engine.

The power made really depends on the quality of the work and the quality of the setup. Even with all those parts you could run less than stock bhp if its done wrong.

  Looking for a ph-quick...
lol How will it make less than stock power? i no its quicker than standard because ive compared it with other valvers
and what problems with the stock engine are you talking about?

i'm just saying that incorrectly fitted or manufactured/modified components can result in a car that performs worse than stock IF incorrectly fitted/setup/tuned.

put it this way.......just because you buy some performance cams, doesnt mean that by slapping them in you will gain 'performance'. Someone in the know hows to make sure they are setup to provide the designed valve timing.

I've seen some pretty poor cylinder heads from supposed ex F1 associated specialists, so you can only guess what i see from less fancy outfits.

I'm simply saying that nobody can tell you what you will make with all those mods. Simply because we do not know the extent of the quality of the goods (the head and cams your fitting, everything else is a known), and we cant speak on behalf of the fitter/tuner as you havent mentioned it, i dont think.

I'm not saying it wont make power, but the 1.8's are pretty hard to squeeze bhp out of in near stock type trims.
