valver prob! underfuelling

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

righto, ages back my car was cutting out at junctions, and idling quite low! i cleaned ISCV, changed speedo cable, and same problem. Me and Paul16v then adjusted the potentiomenter (as it sorted his out), and the idle went mad, so put it back as best we could! Then changed the ISCV and it was off and on for a while.

anyway, its still doing it! when its completely warm its fine, and if i blip the throttle just before the revs drop too low it doesnt stall! underfuelling?

Also the car refused to pop on demand as it usually does. cant get it to pop at all! when the problem was intermittant, it used to pop all the time when it was fine, but never would when it was playing up!

now i reckon its either the potentiometer that needs adjusting spot on by Renault, or the lambda sensor? anyone know for definate, as im pretty broke, and dont wanna try one and it not fix it! then have to fork out for the other!

Cheers for any advice people!!!

Has the lambda sensore ever been changed.

Mine went into renault last year, and they said the problem was the lambda sensore. £50odd for a universal one, or over £100 for one from them. Didnt know they were trying to rip me off on that one. Anyway, I went for the cheaper universal one.

The problem has been on and off now for a year, but is at HillPower this week getting a few bits done, and hopefully this problem sorted out once and for all.

Nick suggested it probably would be the universal lambda sensor, as hes had a few valvers with them on before that have had this problem. He now only sells genuine bosch ones, which I think are £60odd.

Hopefully mine will be running smoothly once more come saturday!

I know BBPT sell them for £65ish. I think Nick told me about £68.

Has it been on a renault diagnostics machine?

Try changing the potentiometer over. You should be able to get one from a breakers yard for £5-10. I think I paid £5 for mine and that sorted the problem. Or if you know someone with a valver see if you can borrow theirs; it only takes 2 mins to swop it over. I got mine from a 19 16v, always seems that there are more of these in the scrappers than valvers. If you cant find one try these, they are based in Lancashire though do mail order and only break Renaults. 01254 386661.
