Vein's Black 330Ci Sport

  Never above 25mpg
Haha I have a new list I suppose since it's over a year I've now had the car!

  • Sort the rear droop out, get the new rear spring pad fitted and whatever else needs doing to it

  • Get a new set of wheels/tyres

  • Soundproof the rear parcel shelf to stop the thing rattling

  • Fit some Xenons up front

  • Bonnet respray or M3 bonnet possibly in carbon fibre

  • New exhaust or backbox and possibly have the center silencers cut out

  • Inspection 2 due in 5,500 miles :quiet:

E39 M5s have dropped in price though so much... just tempted to save a few £K and buy one!!

What is ''Rear droop'' that people go on about??

Allegedly... as the BMWs are all originally LHD the right hand side of the vehicle is counterbalanced to even the vehicle out when the driver is in his LHD BMW.

Apparently though it's not rectified once the cars are RHD and tend to droop slightly due to the counter and the driver on the same side.

I've no idea though honestly, that's just from info gathered on E46Zone and around tinternet.

I had some f**king epic scrapage though on the way to the IOW!! Cringed everytime I hit a small bump or went into a left turn.

Yeah thats true..Not much you can do about that unless you fit coilovers. Its to do with the location of the fuel tank.Fill it with petrol and it will drop lol

Love the piano black trim pieces.

How you finding them after a couple of months of being used? Any marks? £80 seems a bargain to considering what some of the guys on cutters have paid.

Rear lights look fantastic mate. Really considering some for mine to freshen the rear up, did you order them from eBay?

Mine were second hand grey bits that Spray Shack painted gloss black for me but they do sharpen the interior up so so much!

Yeah mate, they're from eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270841286083

Mine's always on about 24mpg give a few decimal places.

If I worried about mpg I'd sell this and buy something nasty and cheap to drive but great on fuel like my mates, always a great reaction telling people you have a 3 litre petrol and not caring!

Mine tended to sit around 26ish. Great cars but for the MPG's i'd really want a bit more performance if im honest.

They're great cars for the mpg Tom! Conisdering 197s do the same mpg and imo offer less as a car I'm more than happy!

No updates really... got a nice I<3CS sticker from Brian this week so put that on and got a tattoo so no spending on the car for at least a couple weeks!

Cheers mate, tis a grown up car but all about the OEM+ ! Still fancy a louder noise from the rear end though!

BMW stuff is all plug and play generally bar a few things so doesn't really matter what spec you buy (imo of course)

Like I said a couple months ago this car always brings up surprises:

I can only presume it's from where the car was in an auction (yes I have cleaned the windows several times since owning it)

Lucky to be alive? Slightly overdramatic you may say but very true.

Had a dap of oppo on the way home on Sunday afternoon, with the heavy rain I was going a smidge over the speed limit and it would've been fine if it was dry but hey ho...

Anyway... going at the smidge I was... I was on a straight bit of road, saw a nice patch of water and err that's when I knew the elements would take over the control of the car :quiet:

The rear of the car skidded out and hit the embankment on the other side of the road and luckily nothing was coming.

The rear wheel's now bent in a bit and the only bodywork that was hit was the petrol filler flap which had just popped open.

Lesson learnt for definite!

In the garage tomorrow and then hopefully be sorted on Friday... just more expense but tbh money is nothing for life!

Good news from the mechanic, just the control arm that connects between the chassis and rear of the hub damaged!

Possibility of the hub being damaged but mechanic said it probably isn't.

Wheel is obviously scuffed but not buckled or cracked.

So it's looking like:

Cost of control arm + labour + fitting of my rear spring pad (overdue)
Cost of tracking

Shouldn't be anymore than £300 hopefully!

Very happy Vein!

Yep, thats what my thoughts were.

Guess that what things like that are there for as well, take the brunt of an impact so it doesn't cost you else were. IE diff damage!

Yeah the mechanic said it was a write off when I first spoke to him so I was a bit distraught but after his little joke it was very pleasant news.

Was expecting at least double that, may still have the potential to go higher if the hub is damaged.

Didn't mention anything about the ABS sensor so I imagine it was knocked out of place rather than broken!

Got the car back today! Just been out for a drive, despite the w*****s on the roads it was a great drive!

The new rear spring pad in and it's raised a bit on the rear which is nice too so hopefully wont have too much scrubbing in the future!

So it's looking like overall costs:

Control Arm
Tracking
Possible dianostics charge
+ 2 or 3 hours of labour

I'm thinking £360ish

New pictures... Exciting stuff..
Anyway, just to support my previous posts

This is a top down view of the OS rear wheel, slightly odd but was like that before?

I'm not really sure what you're asking/saying with that last post? :S

Well... always been a bit confuzzled by how the OS rear wheel protrudes in such a way it faces intowards the rear arch but the other wheel on the NS is inline with the body and unable to be seen.

Have you had the alignment done yet?

I think the std toe on the rear is 8minutes toe in. To be honest taking pictures from above is a bit unscientific as you only have to move a fraction and you can/can't see the wheel.

Are you running spacers?

No spacers. Alignment was done as part of the repair process.

It may be unscientific but that's the true views from above, when looking at the vehicle in person from behind it seems as if the wheel is pointing inwards towards the car.

This is how I imagine it sits... the mechanic is spot on with everything he does so why this has evaded things I'm unsure.

If the tracking has been done correctly and the wheel is as you said it is, it would of been highlighted. I presume these are adjustable at the rear too, unlike just the fronts on a Clio?

  BMW 330ci sp/ 172Cup
Yes. You can do toe and a little bit of camber adjustment. Only needs a little bit of toe in to make the wheel appear to be facing in to the front

  Never above 25mpg
Ok, I'll have to get a specialist to look into it.

kayzee, the car drives extremely well (pre and post), having compared it to my dad's 330ci but then I'm no Ken Block so couldn't pick out major faults behind the wheel.

quick question on the interior door handles, once you've popped the door card off, undone the 3 torx bits on the front and the 6 on the back of the card that hold the handle on, is there anything else?! i've done all that but mine seems fixed pretty tight against the card and dont want to just pull incase somethings still holding it on?

  Never above 25mpg
Nah best thing to do mate, where the 3 torx screws go through the door handles to attach to the door they poke through onto the other side if you tap or hit on the back of those the door handle should just fall off! :)

Legend, worked a treat. More of a hitting motion required but got there in the end. Mine are the cube trims and there a mess. Off to a guy off eBay tommorrow to be recovered.
