Vibration / whuring

  Clio 16v / Clio Williams
My valver has seen better days in the engine and box department. its just ticked over onto 120k and its developed a whuring noise when driving along. im thinking that its probably the main shaft bearings on the box but its hard to tell, anyone else experienced this? its not a constant noise but it seems to go with rotation of the engine, but it continues when the car is in neutral but moving along. initially i thought it was my tyres that were out of shape, but changin them didnt help and since then its got far worse.

any ideas? thanks in advance, dont get on here that much so may not reply for a few days.

Cheers fellas, Tobe.

Sounds like a wheel bearing mate. Jack the car up and hold the wheel at 12 o'clock and 6o'clock. If you can rock the wheel at all then the wheel bearing has gone. Check all the wheels as it may not necessarily be the one you think.

hmm not really, got no movement in the wheels when holding at 12 and 6.. although nearside didnt seem to be running central, definatley needs further investigating. im still more worried its a noise coming from the diff or the gearbox layshaft bearings. its getting worse every time i go out in her tho. somethings gotta give...

Ill see what happens, still open to suggestions to check out..
