Video of our RS2 clio 172 at combe today

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Considering its my mrs daily driver with leather and aircon etc, I reckon it was going pretty well TBH, obviously not the pace of my turbo, but still managed to have some fun in it.

Apologies for the rattley noise on the video, I am not sure what it was, nothing audible in the car so made the camera in its mount or something.

Picks up pretty well! 197 cams and RS2?

Yes mate, TBH it could do with a tiny bit more mapping I think, its still going a tiny bit rich in a couple of places, but doubt the difference will be enough to notice when driving, only when looking on a set of rollers probably.

The engine just sounds different to normal, finding it really weird, although the camera shake didn't help :D Yeah I've given up with fueling on my map, the dyno we have just isn't accurate enough to get it perfect.

Isn't combe a bad track for clio's, a lot of straights, not many twisties to lose the high BHP cars in. Although she/you definitely showed the scooby who's boss.

Yeah, its a lot keen to keep revving, you can hear it in the engine note, totally different to drive to our non RS2 172 (not the turbo, the other one)

Excellent. It fly's around the corners. Made that Scooby and VXR look stupid. I think you could have gone quicker.

Oh it could definately go a bit quicker in the right hands, but as its my mrs daily driver I wasnt exactly giving it 10 tenths TBH, was hardly using the brakes for example, just backing off early and braking very gentle, was more of a brisk drive than a fast one, really wasnt pushing very hard at all, the car is just SO capable though, it still surprises me a bit when I just think of it as the mrs daily and forget how well sorted it actually is now!

Cool Vid!

I'm guessing your using a GoPro with the mount stuck on the dash?
I have this exact same noise problem when I use my dash mount. When I use the suction cup mount, the noise totally goes away!

My guess is that there is a little bit of movement in the mount, and that the GoPro case amplifies the sound.

Really want to see this as I was there recently and I want to compare our lines :)

But iphone/ipad doesn't have flash. Don't have a youtube link do you chip?

Plays fine on my iPhone.

I was very conservative on breaking, it's only an action day, so my laptimes will be a few seconds slow, plus was slowed by traffic every lap. So not really a good basis for comparison.

The throttle body fault behave itself mate? Awesome car, this. Even awesome'er seats.

The GoPro does have two settings for the mic IIRC. One that's a little less sensitive to vibration/noise.

The ones I've used in the past (old non-hd) did.

This vid really makes me want to pull my finger out and get the cup on track, it looks so composed - any chassis mods? Doesn't seem to dive/roll much.

doesn't work on my android phone, says it requires flash, links to install, already installed. it only does this for photobucket videos, loads of other sites I use use flash on the xperia, and all are fine, darn photobucket!lol!

Adam, it's a relatively tame spec, but absolutely everything of any importance is all new.
Track rods, track rod ends, new cup shocks, new top mounts new cup wishbones, eibach springs etc

Engine is fairly standard spec, just rebuilt with better quality components and some 197 cams.

It really is an absolute pleasure to drive, all just feels just right, like you say it's mega composed.

Its finished now, there is literally nothing at all that I would do to change it. The only thing I would like is a diff, but the cost isn't justified so we are going to stop that tiny but short, but everything else is exactly as we want it.

It's got xenons and air con too being a non cup and then we've added trophy seats.

Its basically my idea of the perfect daily driver clio spec.

Luke, annoyingly the throttle fault is still occurring, I think the throttle is a symptom not a cause so in trying to find the underlying issue.

Impressed at the lack of dive, mine does it quite noticably and has a similar spec (recent oe shocks, oe top mounts, sportlines). But you did say you were easy on the brakes so maybe that's it!

I'm not arsed with power gains, just want the front a bit tighter. Perhaps its time to change the 114k old bushes. :headno:

When these cars were new (especially the cups which is what all our bits are from) they were sharp as a scalpel, so it should just be a cause of all new parts and yours will work well too.

We had the camber set to only just under 1 degree, and the tracking set to parallel, so again very much road settings rather than track really.

A good condition 172, is a really competitive car on most trackdays IME.

Ours is on 143K now, but drives like its just rolled off the line (well better in fact as its such a good blend of the parts now, its the spec the trophy should have been from the factory IMHO!)

The GoPro HD only has 1 mic setting. the HD2 has 1 mic setting also, but it has a 3.5mm jack in the side that lets you use a high quality external mic and over-ride the standard one.
Its a common fault with the GoPro's - the waterproof (even with the non waterproof back door) makes the mic really sensitive to vibrations and rattles.
Like i said, use the suction mount and you'll never have that problem again :)

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
The problem is the backing, it had the waterproof back, this meant you can hear the rattles but not the engine.

On the video of my turbo, it was in an open backing not a waterpoof one, and on that the engine sounds come through far more and the rattles far less as a result.
