Virgin / Ntl : their retention bottom line?

  172 cup TT
hi y'all

Straight to the point : What would virgin/NTL's retention department do if i wanted to leave? how much of a discount is the most that would give in order to keep me?

Background info : moved in with mates and we have the (quite frankly awful) 20meg sky bb... to be fair it isnt all THEIR fault as we are in an offnet area and the max we can possibly get is 4.6meg... between 3 it just isnt enough.. we are actually getting a max of 260kps D/load when only 1 pc is connected.. so its not even 4.6meg... I still havent cancelled my NTL account yet due to laziness and still use it as ive not fully moved out yet... I am on 4meg(£25) connection.. if i called to cancel would they try to keep and then discount me? also would they let me upgrade AND discount that?(the 20meg line).

Ta all

I work for thier retentions department. If you only have broadband with us then the best offer you will get is

4mb - £17 for 12 months

or

20mb - £29 for 12 months

you wont get any more than that

also if you are moving property you want to speak to moves and transfers who will also offer you that deal, not retentions or you will queue and then be put straight throught to M&T

I'm moving shortly so phoned up on Saturday saying I was wanting to cancel & move to sky.

I got offered XL tv with Setanta (no sky sports or movies though :dapprove: ), L broadband (4Mb) & phone for £37. Not bad I thought so took them up on it . I've got to wait until a week after I move before it's installed tho...:dead:

Yeah thats not bad as you get XL tv free for 12 months which is an extra £9 saving. You wouldnt believe the people who ring up to take their services with them and when asked when they are moving they say "today" or "last week" then complain because we cant send an engineer the very next day.

They would upgrade and discount at the same time Floodie. The discount would run for 12 months from the date it is installed at your new property. After the 12 months it goes back to normal price unless you call them and see what offers they have at the time.

I knew it wouldn't be straight away - the woman I was spekaing to said I probably could've had it sooner but as the flats never had cable before it's a 2 man install job so I'd have to wait a bit longer.

She did say there's often cancellations though & she took my mobile number & said they'd phone me if they can do it sooner.

I didn't really want the phone but it would've worked out more expensive not to have it!!
