Vista 64 Bit Internet Issues..

Well as title really! i just built a new pc, loaded vista on, plugged in my ethernet cable to the router, everything was fine apart from the fact that internet explorer will not connect to the internet :\ and as a result neither will it update for me

Im connected to the internet as ive tried pinging through cmd and i firefox works a charm!

Ive tried disabling the firewall, changing preferences, allowed different websites though the firewall i just cant work it out!

all i get when i try to get onto google through IE is:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage


Any one come accross this? or know a solution at all?

disable automatic prxy detection maybe? reset IE to defaults?
