Want to fit an HIDs to my 172! Need help!

  golf

As above, Been looking at fitting an HID kit to the motor, Dont know wither to by an original mrk2 172 lights and ballast and bulbs from reno as can get the bits @ trade or purchase an retro fit kit from the web?

Has anyone fitted or has experience fitting a rettro kit or even original 172 lights to a non HID system?

Need your help and advice guys! Oh and ive spent the last 2 hours going thru the search function! Kit would be fitted to a 172 cup!

Cheers

do you have headlight washers, if not you will need to have on fitted to pass your mot, either that or strip the hid out every year, although i think some people get away with it

Surely thats not right? The MOT doesnt state anything about headlamp washers

it does if you have xenons fitted

  Clio II and Grand Modus

I have a H.I.D.-kit on my mk2 ph1 double optik lights and it´s wery easy to fit. All the sockets fit in the standard plugs. It takes about 10 minutes to shift to halogen at mot time ect. There are mounting plates for the ballast´s and the bulbs fit´s in the HB3 sockets (9005) Just remember to order the right kit (HB3 socket)

Wery awesome light´s (6000 Kelvin) and looks good too.......:D

basically you can pick up kits for about £350-700 online but they wont be levelling and they wont have a washer system, tbh you would have to be caught by a very switched on cop (very doubtful) or have them fitted at the time of MOT to have any issues but they WONT be road legal.

Micheal where did you buy your kit from mate? Am not fussy for washers or self leveling as it would be far to expensive!

Strictly by the letter of the law, yes aftermarket Xenon lights are "illegal" if the self levelling and washing system are not fitted, See http://www.hella-press.de/search_detail.php?text_id=189&language=e&newdir=enghttp://www.hella-press.de/search_detail.php?text_id=189&language=e&newdir=eng

But in the MOT manual Xenons CANNOT be failed if there is no self levelling or wash system fitted. The MOT manual only covers Aim, beam control, Colour of the light output etc.. See http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_120.htmhttp://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_120.htm and http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_160.htmhttp://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_160.htm

So aftermarket Xenons will pass the MOT, but will not be legal for road use..

This is also the same for other parts of the MOT test.. ie The car willl pass the MOT but may still be illegal to drive on a public highway due to "construction and Use" legislation.. As the MOT and Law are NOT the same..

I take it that since the cup light units are not double optic it wont matter?
Well the lights in my 03 dynamique arent Xenon though they are twin optic headlamps the same as what are in the cups, they are nowhere near as good as Xenons but a bit better than just normal headlamps like what are fitted in the mk1 clio, saxo/106 etc.

Ok sorry mate, i got it wrong, they arent optic but it does say in the clio brochure that they are twin headlamps IIRC.
