probly a lot better mate i have something against macafee and
my comp tech told me not to go near macafee crap.
avg free and stuff on the net is class even he recommends it.

As above.....

Norton and Macafee, are shite. They both place viruses on your PC to prove there 'worth'.

Unlike Avast which actually looks after your pc.

PMSL. Yea.... right......

My guess is you have some spyware or something which is causing that - no legit anti virus software would shut down your computer. It'll just be a dirty pop up to scare you into spending £50 on nothing.

Have you tried Ad-Aware as well? Does it only do it at certain times? (as in, you're just browsing random web sites at the time it comes up - what web site is it?)

It appears in a windows warning dialouge box, not the usual ad pop up way. It doesn't seem linked to web browsing etc, it reminded me of the old blaster virus from a few years back.

Ah!
Ok.. I know the screen you're on about.

This one?

Tell him to go f**k himself.

Even the home stuff, whilst resource hungry and by no means the best, is still very effective - the enterprise stuff is miles ahead of toys like AVG Free and other free Antivirus products.

As for the problem you're having, I'd be inclined to download Sysinternal's Autoruns, and see what processes are executed as part of WIN.INI, System.INI and User.INI etc. It's always found them when I've had issues with client's machines.

The weird thing is, that error isn't on Google at all if you search for it.. and *everything* is on Google :p

I foudn it to be the best lightweight solution out there.

Kaspersky is great, but I can never keys to work. Clam AV is just as good.
