Water vapour from exhaust

  Clio 182 & C5 VTX+

Ive got a 3 month old 182 (2500 miles on clock) which produces an awful lot of water vapour from the exhaust when pushed hard, so much that I need to use rear wiper constantly to clear rear window. Not losing any coolant and does same on long and short journeys, so not a vapour build up in the exhaust. I am going to try different petrol station from usual one but wanted to know if anyone else has a similar problem.

Seren,

I get water vapour from mine for quite a while on short or long journeys, but dont tend to give it anything until its been running for about 10mins or so.

Never had to clear the rear window though.

Dont think its anything to worry about.

Ive often wondered why my car (vts) puffs out so much of this.

In the morning it does it worse especially in the winter (though I guess thats because its cold and condenses quicker). It looks embarrassing if you even hint at accelerating; its like a steam train.

Thing is though most of the other cars I see dont suffer from this. Some dont seem to at all. Its not as if theirs are warmed up more because some start their journeys from near me.

Im not sure about producing water from burning petrol and oxygen otherwise youd see the steam all time, at least when its cold anyway. The steam seems to stop after the car has warmed up. Id say its more likely its condensation that has built up in the exhaust overnight, and is slowly being evaporated with the hot exhaust as you start driving.

Thats my theory anyway.
