Weird engine problem

  Mk2 ph2 1.2
Hey guys, I bought a 51 plate 1.2 clio about 3 months ago now and have been experiencing some problems with it, for about a month after i bought it it was running fine then out of no where this warning came up while i was driving

The car slowed down to about 20 mph and the accelerator literally did nothing no matter how far I pushed it down, the engine seemed to give its self enough revs to drag its self home at 20mph, this has been happening quite a lot now and was wandering if you guys know anything about this happening or can think of anything to help me.

I did find a thread about this exact problem
( http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=73117 )
but before I go to any garage is there any info you guys can give me on this?

thanks in advance
Scott

You need to get it diagnosed properly mate on a decent code reader.
Had the same with mine took the accelerator pedal of and sprayed loads of electrical cleaner in it sorted.

could be the connector for the pedal unit, sits near the clutch-pedal (black and yellow connector). try cleaning/soldering the connection. if thats not sorting it, its time for proper diagnosis at a specialist

Check the engine loom as said. Surprised theres still any out there that have survived this far without it needing to be replaced.

if its the 1.2 16v then theres a bit of a wiring issue that puts the engine into limp mode. the ecu is on the back of the inlet manifold and the l/h plug when looking at the engine has glue on the wiring that melts onto the ecu pins causing a bad connection. codes like throttle body or pedal pot and two undocumented codes come up on diagnosis. the fix is to replace the loom and clean the ecu pins and the throttle body while the manifolds off. check first tho!

Ill check what I can then im gonna have to start uploading pictures to find out where half the parts you have mentioned are:p Thanks a lot for the replies guys.

Can't see the pic, but if its at the back of the block in the moddle then yes thats it, pull it off, no doubt its been chaffing the wires. This will be the source of your problem.

I'll have to do this tomorrow when its light outside. I will take a picture of it with the box off/out and show you so you can give me some more info, again thanks for the help guys.

I managed to spin the small brass wheel at the back of the box for about 5 mins but it has simply stuck now, wont budge. How do i get it off if the wheel wont move?:(
