What camera for a Newb?

Looking to get a decent camera and just wondered if any of you could recommend a good one for a beginner.

I've seen people talk about the Nikon D40 and also the Cannon 450D I think are these both good cameras or is it worth spending a little extra and getting a higher spec?

Anyone seen any good deals at the moment?

For budget starter camera's both are reliable and sturdy. As countless other threads have been started in here with the same question though, the answers will be the same.. Go try both to see what suits you in terms of ease of use before parting with money.

ive got a 350D and im a newb with photography in my eyes and its a really simple easy to use camera plus it will be cheap now seeing as they have the 500D out now
