What can i do to get the best performace out of a 1.2 clio mk2

Hi there i have a 1.2 clio y reg grande and i want to know what is the best thing to do to get the best performace like cams , inuction kits (been told thay dont do anything) injectors i want a bit more go in my clio just spent 500 on a service and the diffrance was massive but still , I WANT MORE, without buying a 182 or pulling the engin out and putting a 1.4 turbo engin out of a renno 5

Tbh you wont get much gain from the 1.2 lump. My advice is you save for a clio sport as im sure you will get told alot here, but failing that go down the route of induction it, cat back exhaust etc etc but i think you are pretty much limited to that! maybe ecu remap aswell.

save your money mate - you can pick up 172 cups these days for under 3k and by the time you've shelled out for alloys, induction kit, exhaust, sport bumpers, remap et you'll be halfway there.

however a good cat-back exhaust will really loosen it up over 50mph

i bought my clio in july for 1,700 and spent like 700 quid on it so far

im sure i herd jamie (R8 FTW) got his 1.2 8v remapped to 85 bhp:S, only herd it tho im not 100% sure

Thats true but the OP only has a grande (Mk2 Ph1 8v) which to my knowledge cannot be remapped so this isnt really an option to him.

In all honesty, I reckon tuning a 1.2 of any make of car isnt a waste of time if done correctly. Ok these are modern engines but it doesn't stop you using old fashioned tuning techniques to get a bloody lot more power than a remap. Ive been tuning Classic Minis for a few years now and its not too difficult to get 100bhp from a 1275cc FIFTY year old engine. Theres loads more to be had if your seriouse about it. Im developing a 360+ bhp 1460cc engine using a BMW 16v motorbike head.
For a start I cant imagine the bottom end on these car being an issue as you can rev the nuts off them anyway. Forget forged piston at this power level, they arent needed..FULL STOP. This means you can focus on the top end. Taking the cylinder head off isn't a major job so start by getting that sorted. Gas flow the ports to with in an inch of thier life and polish the exhaust side. Fit 3 angle valve seats if you want it to flow even better. Up the compression ratio with a quick and easy skim and this will allow you to use more racy cams. As for the fueling, ditch the standard inlet. Either adapt it or get a manifold made up to fit Bike carbs. They are cheap as chip and flow as good as you'll ever need on a 1.2.
Id be very suprised if you dont get over 100 banannas from that and all for pretty much bugger all. I know what its like when people say "buy a quick car to begin with"...I have, but ive still got my 50 year old Mini in the garage....which by the way would actually leave my v6 standind. Its just the grin factor when youve made something go a damn lot faster than it should.

I agree 100%. It was realy annoying me having a slow car etc and i nearly bought a Fiesta ZS but then i decided against it and decided to keep my car for another year and get a 1*2. Next August when i'm 19 after having the 1.2 for two years i'll be made up to get in the 1*2 and the wait will be worth it.

I'm also content with my 1.2 atm because i know its better in the long run to wait, its reasonably fun driven well, i'm also glad i stayed with only 75bhp because i know that i wasn't ready for more power.

Agree with that mate, Id also say having driven 1.25 fiesta, 1.1 206 and 1.2 Corsa as well as some bigger engined cars that the 75bhp 1.2 in the Clio is actually very good for an engine that size

IMO, If you want max performance gains for youre £, Strip it, Stick some lightweight 15's on it with some cheap coilovers, and drive it like you stole it. Stick a new panel filter in the airbox for some extra noise if you want.
