what diff does decat on 172 make?

  2001 172
I'm considering having a decat made by a friend, however I've had one on a previous car and it ran like a bag of shite on tickover, and made it really really loud (also obviously failed the mot, as expected)

what sort of sound do they give?

How does it run?

do you see any power increase?

im running one with a 182 manifold and a k-tec stealth.

i got big gains although i fitted it with a 182 manifold at the same time

it runs fine, idles s**t as they all do as standard even with a cat lol

no flat spots

sounds much better, a bit louder.

usual petrol smell when your in traffic or parked up, makes u feel like a man

car spits flames when you blip down gears or hit the limiter

^ Really? Mine bearely popped let alone flame.

They make a little bit of difference...Not much, refo rev's smoother.

mine idles perfectly with the cat, and I really dont want it hunting, as well as coughing and farting at the lights. does yours do alot of this ?

any vids of the tone under load by any chance?

mine pops like a mo-fo with just a cat back. Got de-cat on order so will report back if you like.

yeah that'd be good cheers

And jesus tity fookin christ, that 140mph run was brisk. cant belive how quick it climbs past 120? mins struggles past that. By the way, what are matched inlets?

the big thing that sits over the top of your engine is an inlet and they are poorly fabricated at factory so to get the most from them you can get them matched. Mine used to struggle past 110mph when it was completly standard now it see's 130ish ok on a private run way near me

ideally you would get a re-map also. With a re-map you could see the high 180's without the low 180's at a guess

I assume you already have a cat back btw. but at the end of the day its not a massive gain. But the car will respond much better and rev a lot more freely

so currently i HAVE A stainless CAT BACK SYSTEM WITH A FILTER..... and plan on going with a decat and 182 manifold with map. If I were to add the matched inlets, do you still think I'd only be looking at high 180's?

possibly break the 190's but id be surprised to be honest. Its not just the bhp figure its the torque figure too

  2001 172
I thought I'd certainly break 190, but dunno. Would hope that concentrating on breathing mods would bring the torque along the HP

A while back somone with similar mods had theres on the dyno and made 185 bhp. Things I cant remember is if it was mapped and if there inlets were matched. But hey defo had 182 manifold, de-cat, cat back and filter

ok. no idea at all as to who it was? be god to see who it was and what I cAN expect. would the matched inlet alone give any noticeable gain ?

  172 cup
depends how good your stock ones are tbh, some are ok and some are shocking but its an improvement either way. Mine were v.good and I still noticed a differance with my matched ones.

Just dug out the rolling road thread. He didn't have a re-map or matched inlets so fingers crossed you would make the 190's
