what else do I need to boost the 172

  172,scenic, trafic
OK am looking at an f4rt lump which inc turbo but not much else, what else do I need to charge it? I no intercooler etc but do I need loom and ecu from 225. I no there are threads on this but just want a list. Many thanks

  1.2 daily +172 ph1
How much money u got to play with on this?
I did 172 conversion to non sport and that come to £1600 all parts e.x

225 would perfect for Clio I would imagine.

Depends what power your after? Or do you just want to at least get it running? As above how much money do you have play with? Also who is doing the work?

Engine mounts
Intake system
Fuel pump (stock will only laast till about 240hp)
Radiator
Depends whats missing from the engine do you need injectors

Wiring and ECU though its upto you can get a custom loom made and a stand alone ECU etc

most of engine is there, think he basically cut hoses etc to intercooler etc and is selling the lump. can i use the 225 loom and is stand alone 100 nec? im not looking for more than 250 horses

I don't do easy and its not something I want to do from new parts. If a second hand engine came up I would buy it. I'm in no hurry to do it so this way is ideal

I dont think it will be at all easy for you to get the megane ecu running in the clio, as in im not even sure if its really possible to do without having access to turn off the immobilisation etc.

The megane engine wont bolt upto the clio gearbox.

Easiest way to do it would be fit the pistons from that engine into your engine with a set of new rings, and then bolt on the turbo and manifold, and then run it on aftermarket.

Or use your existing bottom end with a 197 head to get the compression right and then just use the turbo and manifold.

If you want to use the complete engine and box then you'll need to get new shafts made etc too, so it becomes slightly less trivial to do.

Ps

If you want a challenge, why not put a decent engine in instead of the f4rt? Ie look away from renault.

I have heard the six speed box can be used if you change the sump so that's my plan! I don't have the time to go all out with something like a vag lump. It's not a road car so don't mind if it takes a while tho.

Need to look at downpipes too but it can be done.

Think Owen:s did this one to a ph1 and RS Tuning got it runing on his remaped std ecu.

You could always go stand alone management rather than messing with the OE stuff. That's what I'm doing.

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Stand alone certainly gets my vote.

If you use the meggy 6 speed box im not aware of any existing driveshafts that will work with it on a clio, so unless you get lucky raiding the parts bin be prepared to get tucked up for a set of shafts as they arent cheap to get made well.

You don't do easy, you don't have the time? It either one or the Other.
Owen fitted the f4rt lump as did Andy, Andy had to re locate the brake master cylInder and servo as the Custom down PiPe was far to close to it.

Do you mean andyrg?

If so he didnt fit an f4rt as far as im aware, he just used the internals in an F4R, same as he did in his mk1 (now my car)

That's correct on Andy's but Owens was a straight F4Rt lump with 6 speed box. Not sure what he did with driveshafts though.

Down pipe is a megane Decat and a slightly customised link pipe, nothing too difficult.

Master cylinder doesn't have to be moved. Andy was just concerned about the heat issues but I have a ceramic coated Decat and an heat shield. The master cylinder can be moved over slightly too to give more clearance. There is only 10mm clearance from the down pipe on my Impreza and it's master cylinder and there is no issues with that so I won't be moving my master cylinder.

you missed my point, i dont get much time to do things so i am going to take my time and do what i want rather than the easy way

somebody has said you can use the 172 f4r sump on the f4rt lump i think. i no all about swapping the internals from f4r to f4rt. and someone has used the 6 speed box in a 172

Owen used an f4r sump on an f4rt engine, then fitted the jc5 gearbox. Whos fitted a 6 speed box in a 172?

  Clio T 314hp c43 AMG
If the box is not important then I think you will have to make the jc5 fit like Owen did, or have custom mounts made and custom driveshafts made, chassis mods and after market management, for the 6 speed.

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
I'd go to the extra effort of fitting the box if you arent in a rush to finish it as they are a lot stronger than the 5 speed rubbish.

offering you an insight into renault metalworks to aid with your project :p

completley relevant

It's not either that ruins the boxes lio is it. It's cos they fragile. Not made of cheese just fragile. And I think my Trafic has more torque than my 172

your taking this a bit serious lol. it was only a joke.

and fyi yes torque kills gearboxes. fact of life. and iirc the Jc5's are rated to 200nm of torque. start turboing and youl get over that easilly

  172,scenic, trafic
No I'm not lol. Nothing serious about renaults.lol. its like anything tho isn't it, depends how you use things, if you abuse stuff its never going to last.

yes of course but if you get 225 bhp and you go for a spireted drive your not exacxtly going to be thinking about how fragile the box is are you? and if you do itl take the spirit of the drive away.

always feathering the throttle to not damage the box, easy downshifts to care for it. only once it will take for you to forget and you have a hole in your diff housing!

its the sole reason i went for the VAG box, the fact that i could be having epic fun being spoilt by having to be careful with the box ruins the whole point.

that and i wanted 6 speed
