Spent the last 3 weekends freezing my nuts off taking my gearbox out, replacing broken parts, refurbishing the subframe and putting it all back together thinking it was fixed. Something still not right with it so it’s all got to come back out again. I could quite easily break it or put it up for sale right now 🥶

The bearing tube guide came loose at Croft so I replaced that.

While everything was out I checked the new Sach Racing Clutch with less than half a days trackwork and all seemed ok. On start up there’s like a rattle which at first appeared to come from the box but when you get underneath the car it’s coming from the flywheel area.

So I’ve missed something. Flipping freezing weather doesn’t help.

Aye that sounds a bit rough like 🤔

Almost like the release bearing has come off the fork and catching the pressure plate.

Definitely not that as that was my original suspicions and the clutch is functioning as it should. Everything is brand new in there except clutch which as I said is half a day old. There’s obviously some damage to the clutch which isn’t apparent on first inspection.

I’ll send it back to Sachs and they can have a look at it. I have a brand Valeo here but I’m reluctant to fit it after my mates blew up at Donny after 12 laps 😂

I’ve got a trackday booked at Croft in April so I better get my skates on 😬

Isn’t doing it now 🤷🏻‍♂️ I wonder if the starter motor is dodgy and wasn’t disengaging?

Routine oil change, whoever recommended removing the filter with a plastic bag to catch the oil saved me a lot of grief today

Tried to do a HPAS delete and loop the rack as part of a E-PAS conversation. But it appears those m12 hose-bolts are made out of cheese and put in by the Hulk...

Gonna get myself some bolt extractors.

Washed the last few months worth of dirt, salt and brake dust off mine today.

It's spent most the time sat in the compound at work this year as I've been away working a lot so good to get it back home and give it a good clean 😎

Cut the connection to the alarm siren because i armed the alarm and then could not dis-arm for toffee! So i'll be spending the weekend tracing the and disconnecting the alarm!
And...
Went to the scrappy and got a reclining handle for the passenger seat (Now fitted)
Fitted the new gearstick gaiter.
Removed number plate lamp/lense and ready for a good clean and restoration.

Finally started fitting new inner tie rods and rod ends, wishbones and powerflex arb bushes along with a bit of tidy up like the subframe to chassis bars etc.

The inner bushes are perished but no noticable play, for the grief involved I may leave them. Good idea?

New discs, pads and brake hardware put on the van to get it MOT ready.

Old discs were knackered despite only being on for one set of pads, and the rubber boot on the NS piston was coming off. Definitely needed a bit of attention.

Didn't do anything to the Clio today, but I jacked the MX5 up and removed a wheel so I could try to manually disengage the jammed on handbrake, laughed at how much rust there was, then got the jump leads out to charge the flat battery. Pretty productive day by my standards 😂

Finally get a day off work, starts out by having to hacksaw off the last bolt holding the ancient exhaust mount which started crumbling like cheese. This was after the other 2 came off fine after soaking them all overnight in wd40 and using the tightening up and loosening method and taking it easy, only for the last one to lose it's weld! Soon forgotten after more accumulation and retail therapy. I'm assuming its gonna be the same for getting the cat off and the weather stays ok and can crack on with some jobs... Happy Easter!

Sorted out of the mess autoglass made when they changed the side window on my van.

Bloke told me a clip had snapped and he didn't have the correct one to replace it. Window seemed to work so didn't think much of it for a while. Recently though the window started falling off the runner and getting stuck in the down position. 🙄

Took the door card off to investigate. Turns out He hadn't broken a clip, he'd f**cked up the shuttle itself which goes up and down in the window rail - an integral part of the window reg.

Off to the scrap yard to get a new window reg then! All sorted now.

Took the original cat off today, what a pain that was... Been on the car since day one so proper tricky with all the clips and bits as well as the rust, got to have seriously small hands to get in there. Having second thoughts about putting a 172 decat on now and thinking of going straight to a 182 manifold instead. Less worry about it getting chopped off and robbed now anyways... Went out on the bike after as a treat! :p Note the confused cup headlights... Still don't like the bullets tho I want some original ones

Tried to start it, nope battery not having it. Put charger on and it started snowing. Packed up and it can wait until next weekend.
Went and hoovered the girlfriend's car out while wearing a t-shirt earlier, went inside to pour myself a drink before swapping the wheels over on my car and when I looked outside it was bloody snowing too!

Not exactly top tier of excitement but restored all the exterior trims and plastics!
little 50/50 on the rear bumper trim.
