As much as i love buying/selling alot of cars, it is made so stressful by the people selling them

take this for example http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2410349.htm

i emailed him saying 'hi whats the service history like? do you have the receipt for the belt change? was it done by specialist/main dealer?'

he replied 'erm some service history, belt hasnt been changed as it isnt due till 72000'

to which i replied 'any detail on service history? belt is massivly overdue being 9 years old'

he then replies 'my dad has been a mechanic for 30 years and he sayd it isnt due till 72k regardless of age and im in industry myself so i should know'

WTF i was going to get arsey but i just said 'ok just offering friendly advice etc'

piston heads is a joke tbh and autotrader isnt much better

anyone else find it very stressful when finding a new car lol ?

Lol yea i suppose its to be expected but why cant people be honest

when i sell my cars i am honest about everything and people like that and it always helps sell the car quicker

i dont get why people think if they dont put up information then people wont ask about it

yea plenty of cars on here so just messaging about

alot of people overprice their 172's and wonder why they dont sell

I went to look at a campus sport before getting my car, the bloke wanted £2,500, he said loads of 17 year olds had been to see it, but because it was a 1.6 didn't want it because they wouldn't get insured.

I rang the insurance company with the numberplate for a quote, they told me it wasn't a 1.6, it was a 1.2.

Still interested in the car, I went round to see the guy again and asked him to check the V5. He looked and found out that it was indeed a 1.2, he's been in it and I quote "it seemed fast, so I thought it must be a 1.6".

I said never mind, as it's a smaller engine would you take £2,000 for it. He said he was going to put the price up because it would sell better as a 1.2. *DOUBLE FACEPALM*

Ah, with most things like this, everyone is an expert! When I bought my 182 , the ammount of b*llsh*t the guy gave me about the car. Oh, it was the development car for RS192's exhaust (not), it has very special wiper blades (really!) etc. New tyres (budget) . It has had everything done when needed. Errr.. completely knacked rear shox, rang the garage who replaced the belts "no mate, never did that" eek 87K! Changing those tomorrow. I bought it very cheap, so I didn't care anyway. But these people just are like this. Best bet is to ring / email and wind them up. You are right about the prices too... £3K for a 172!! Or £5K for a 182!!:rasp:

Lol at both them stories thats crazy

glad its not just me :)

yea the prices are stupid 172's are not worth more than 2500 tbh unless very well looked after and full service

you can pick 182's in good condition and history for 3500

i might just buy another phase 1 in black nomnomnom

I've emailed that seller asking the same.

I still maintain a good 182 is £4500. When looking for my mate was incredibly hard to find a good 182.

Completely agree they're idiots. Went to see another 205 gti before getting mine and upon noticing White deposits on the dipstick he told me the head gasket was fine and that the White stuff was condensation lol.

I think it's horrible how willing people are to screw you over.

Well my 182 was £2300 with history. Change belts and shox and it is spot on... There is a really good Flame Red 172 on Pistonheads needs belts, but otherwise perfect £2000. Like most things, they are only worth what someone is willing to pay. Hence that is why there are so many for sale for so long.

It's not even limited to buying cars, I work for a newspaper and get literally hundreds of stories about people going to MAIN DEALER garages for a service or MOT and being told they need new bushes, exhaust, clutch etc on cars which have had the part changed two weeks before.

If you added up all the money which people have been conned out of at the garage it would probably pay off the national debt!!

£2300, proper bargain if it's good

But, I read your previous post about it having "lockwood" dials, so i'll reserve my judgement till i see pics. Oh and you say it broke down lol

Yes, the ghastly dials - "Visible Performance" !!! UGH. Anyone got a speedo? Oh yes, it did break down, only a battery though. Doing the belts myself - hell, 40 years in the trade doing lots of that sort of stuff should help! So, £250 for all the belt kits oem, oem rear shox at £42 each. Some decent tyres at £80 a go. Still a good deal. Helps to be vat registered too!! Will do some pics soon. Actually, here is the Ebay link. It is good for a laugh! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200563828742&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I have the tools already. I ought to post pics of my toolkit - the tool box is insured for £40K let alone the other stuff. Snap On bloke loves me - he can always flog me some expensive thing - like the torque wrench with a gyroscope so it measures the angle for stretch bolts even if you have a few pulls on the wrench!
Yea, the dials.....
Decent advert? Hmmm.. a lot of bullsh*t though. At least he can spell!

Love the video!

The other thing that iritates is when the advertiser lists all the things that are stock. Leather seats, climate, alloy wheels, adjustable steering wheel, oh this is a special edition, it has doors! Wheels! engine! pedals! Heater! Windows! And a limited edition round thing that if you grab it and turn it the front wheels steer around corners!

Buying cars is a nightmare.

Any adverts that are written in chav text are ignored. Any that don't list any details are ignored.

I called one guy...

Me - Hi blah blah blah.
Him - Blah blah blah
Me - So where abouts are you?
Him - Dorset
Me - Yeah. Where abouts?
Him - Dorchester
Me - This is going to take a while. Where abouts exactly?
Him - I'm not giving you my address.

Actual WTF. Just send the car down the phone line to me then.

Simple fact, you won't buy it, so he's lost a potential buyer.

His loss, not yours.

all depends on price, if he;s askin peanuts he knows someone who puts up with his type of thickness will no doubt buyit!!!

Sorry after looking at that, i still maintain a good 182 is £4500, don't see how you can say a 182 that needs new steering wheel, dials replaced, replacement stereo, unknown springs, and a boost valve? and no belts is a good one? and breaks down after a week lol.

Good price though.

Stereo? What's wrong with the Sony? And it has the original. Jamex springs are ok (You've not heard of Jamex????). Soooo. Belts replaced, fully serviced, new battery, new rear shox, new Renaultsport mats, Boost valve not fitted (you have to be kidding..), steering wheel replaced, speedo on its way.
So you'll pay me £4500. Good! pm your details and I will send my bank a/c details for the transfer.

I hate everything to do with the general public and car sales.

The sellers are nobs, buyers are liars and mechanics can scuk on my ginger nuts. Cnuts.

I should have paid attention at school and I wouldn't be in this mess.
