What is the best game you've ever played

Just would like to get some peoples thoughts on this, the game can be as old or new as you like or on any console made including arcade games.

My favourites is a 3 way tie between

Killer Instinct (the arcade version)
Halo 1 (Xbox v1)
Halo 3 (not out yet but u know it'll be better than the previous 2)

This is an age old discussion but still interesting.

I would say the game that has consumed me the most would be Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. That N64 game swallowed massive chunks my life back in the day, but who's to say how good it would be if played for the first time now?

On PC I would have to say that Half-Life was amazing, albeit let down (badly) by the alien world level near the end. Half-Life 2 was flawed but just as invloving as its prequel and with far superior visuals. Other greats such as F.E.A.R. or FarCry have been and gone, but they were not games that I wanted to play as soon as I got out of bed on a saturday morning, so the crown goes to Ocarina of Time

If your into Combat Sims then these 2 games are outright winners. Nothing has ever come close.

^^Harsh, but I agree on principle. OOT was so superb that it actually became a quest, not so much a game. It was truly a legend. Imagine playing it for the first time, now, with current generation X360 visuals (or on a PC ) and proper surround sound

i suppose this is all down to what genre of games u like to play really, i like to play shoot em ups, fighting, sports and also rpg to certain extent. but now, for example vice city, would come under several different genres (action, rpg, shoot em up)

Project Gotham 2 - online on Xbox

I have lost literally weeks playing that game! Awesome fun online. I have PGR3 on my 360 too but it is not as good in terms of gameplay unfortunately.

I love it the way everyone always starts naming 10 different games in these threads - when the title clearly says 'the best game'!

Pang: Amiga (just such a simple game but such a good laugh)

Super Skidmarkz: Amiga (havent played for ages but was awsome fun)

Speed Freaks: PSx (not very well know but wicked kart game)

Super BishyBashy: PSx (just add a few mates + some beer/vodka)

Quake 2 (4 player spilt in multiplayer) PSx (poss one of my fav. ps1 games in multiplayer)

Worms (in multiplayer) PSx (looks shite, legendary gameplay)

GT2: PSx (still play this, quality selection of cars)

Burnout: PS2 (fav 2 player racing game USA marathon neck + neck!!!)

Halo: Xbox (completed twice in legendary)

GT4: (the 'ring) PS2 (virtually lives in the cd drive)
