What its cost to run a 172 over 2 years

  VW Potato

ok, my 172 is two at the end of May. Last night, i jusyt tallied up what it has cost me so far. This includes servicing, tyres, the 6k oil changes, brake pads (front), but not petrol, insurance etc etc obviously. It has cost me £648.12. Now, its due for a 24k service, and a new set of front tyres, so all in, on its 2nd b/day, it would have cost me just under £1k to run.

My Golf GTI, by comparison, cost just over £2k for six years motoring. So, take into account inflation etc, and the Clio doesnt work out too expensive to run.

Ye but you have a far better car than the golf GTi for you money.. no ?

I dont like to think how much my car costs me, and what I could have spent the money on instead (holidays etc) I would be quite a well off person if I didnt pump most of my money into my car.

sure, but I wasnt dissing the Golf matey, just drawing a comparison in running costs. (oddly enough I dreamt about that old Golf last night!)

its actually quite scary when you think about how much you spend on a car, including fuel, insurance etc.

Insurance £700/year
Fuel about £30-40/week
Road Tax £160/year
6x new tyres + fitting ~ £400
Spray work £50
Suspension £130
Servicing £160 (will be £350 soon as 24k service comming up)
Cleaning Products etc £50
Tools for working on car £100

The list goes on..

Erm...had my car for 2 years and in that time Ive spent the following

Insurance = R27984
Fuel = R20800
Licensing = R180
4x new Tyres + fitting = R3000
Spray work = R350
Servicing = R1950
Car payments = R62400
Decat = R300
Chip (not fitted) = R500

Total spent on car = R117,464.00 (approx £9788) -> £4894 per year

matey, I left the car repayments, petrol, tax and insurance off my calculations, as you accept these as givens (well, I do!)

Guess i wanted to see how it faired re: servicing, tyres, and incidental or unexpected expenses (like when I fuc5ed my wipers up!).

Sure, my car has cost me more to run than £1k, and I know my method isnt exactly scientific but now I dont know what point Im trying to make so will shut up ;)
