What Mods To Do First To A 172 (02 plate)

Does anyone have any ideas of any worthwhile mods that i could do to my 172 ?

Eg. Exhaust,De-cats, Filters, lowering etc.

I've had a look in the search bit but unsure what filters and exhaust would give me best power gains :dapprove:

Whats you's guys done ?

And whats the results been.

As for lowering, i aint got a clue.

I've heard coilovers are good, but quite costly :dapprove:

You hepl would be great guys

sod spending money! its all about stripping! lol! its free too!! get that interior out! but seriously coilovers should be the first point of call for me, pricey yes but well worth it

Panel filters a good start - ITG has a good rep on here
New cat back exhaust system
Decat/sports cat

All of those ain't gonna give you much more bhp but will improve throttle response and engine breathing noticably. (I have ITG, sports cat and cat back) I intend to get next:

Inlet manifold matching - supposed to be a good mod giving good gain per £
Remap/replacement ecu - makes the most of your mods

Quite happy with my suspension :D

Losing weight is a good shout. Depends how hardcore you wanna go

why not just buy a car that handles well and is fast to begin with mate??

I used to think like that lol

Is a fair comment but to be fair 172's do handle well and are fast standard (relatively). We're just talking fairly straight forward mod's that will enhance the car slightly not spending loads on new cams or turbo conversion (imo are not worth it)

If you wanna get big power relatively cheap buy a turbo car ;)

true, i know dannyboy172 quite well and he has done it, so i will ask for a drive of his next time i see him to see if there is any difference for myself.

theres only one option really, if its got carpet it aint hardcore! lol! another plus side is the more you plastic parts remove from a clio the less there is to rattle!

Suspension is the best bet spend on H and R or Leda is you've the money then brakes next if you've trouble with them fading.

Engine wise tunning isn't good value best options are to get the intake manifold worked the 182 exhaust manifold and a remap plus a decat (you need to bodge a Cat so a decat is value for money the best way plus some sort of panel filter etc.

Yeah, waist of time and money doing the engine.

Ive spent **** loads modding the engine on mine and yes its quick but for the money i could have had well above 300bhp on any turbo car.

As whats been said, lighten it up and do suspension mods

splitter does what???
spolier does what??

waste of money!

brakes + suspension first

you can go for just lowering springs (£137) or upto full blow coilovers (from £755)

Looks better! The clio's engine isn't worth touching. I wish mine was std!

P.S - Did you like my pic message y'day you slut?

  BMW M3
182 Cup spoiler looks good.

Suspension ( even just sportlines)
Brakes
Inlet Manifold Match
RS Tuning Remap
ITG
Exhaust
Decat-sportcats

Along those lines i would say

Sib

  Clio 172 (Silver)
Wings west body kit, 19inch alloy, silver window tints and quad exhaust.

but seriously - do what you want or else you'll end up with a clio sport replica which is done to death now. as Crazy says

Splitter, cup spoiler and H&R's all as your first mods. Job done. Next car.

Then you will have a car Identical to the other 1000's of CS members :)

You forgot the Turinis ;)

Mod'in is an identity...99% look shite..So why waste the money? Granted my car looks like everyone else's..Whys that?...Because it looks good!? You'll grow out of bodykits soon mate. I did.

oh i have grown out of modifying, The clio bores me now lol. 1.8 VVC Powered Metro's/Rover 100's is where its at ;)

But theres no point modifying unless yout going all out. Either stay standard or modify big time. ON a clio sport id only go for performance enhancing mods, like Fred said.

Personally, I thought your stand at FCS was amusing, IT was like a dealership forcourt. Fair play to all of you, you have nice fast hot hatches, But the way you all attempt to make them even more identical makes me laugh. Lowering i do agree with, but cup splitter/spoilers etc etc? Why bother? Same with turninis, Unless they are lighter than standard, I take that back. I do like the 172/182, but its getting very tiresome seeing everyone spending money doing the same mods. Just leave them standard, or make them faster.

if your after modding an n/a engine.. sell it and get a civic type r and modify that.. will see ALOT more gains per £.

the 172/182 lump gains practically nothing conidering the amount spent. leave it standard and save for something quicker.

Lol. I've done both. 190Bhp and nice looks. What wheels look better than the turini's. The vee spoiler is too big...And the cup splitter is the only one for the car....Makes sense to me! No point in tuning an RS anyway. The similarity's between RS tuning and A bonfire made up of 20£ notes is uncanny.

Go jap, German or Turbo is you want power.

Now they are fun cars.

The handling isnt the best, or the brakes, Just running gta stoppers and suspension on the one. Its not my car, My friend bought one for about £1100, but it hasnt got the MGF box.

I basically bought a 1.1 Rover 100 Kensington (its not a metro honest) As a run around whilst the clio is off the road. Its got 12 months mot, new tyres, recently serviced, 6 months tax and i paid £550 for it. All the rust spots have been done too. My insurance is only £415 a year. Ive got a car that should last me a year with insurance for under £1k!!!! Its ideal for getting to work etc etc, and I get no trouble etc, can park where i like, and I suppose it just changed my opinion of cars. I've got a clio, which i do love to bits, but it owes me so much, and Its slowly becoming a piece of jewellery rather than a car. I'm scared to leave it anywhere, or even drive it sometimes! Where as the Rover 100 can just be left whereever, drove where ever, if i need to bump up curbs, leave it in a rough area etc etc I can. Its only an A to B car, but for what it is, its an absolute awesome car!!

I was honestly considering getting rid of the clio, and saving up for a few years and buying a decent Jap Car, and insuring it CASH! No debt etc etc. The Clio does owe me lots, but its more of what its costing me every month, thats the problem. I spend ALL of my expendable income on new parts etc etc, That I cant afford to have fitted. I've got £750 seats, £100 door Cards, ££££'s of stereo kit and dynamat, that I cant afford to have fitted yet! Its dead money.

This "shitty" Rover 100, really changed my aspect on things. Since buying it, I've never had so much money!

IT makes so much sense buying a slow shed as your first car and savign for a decent one, A couple of my mates had absolute rust buckets as first cars, but they worked and got them from A to B. Admitedly they earn more than me, but the yare similarl yaged (20-22) and They are now looking at buying S3's, 200SXs, CTRs, ITR's and Leon Cupra's. Ive still got a clio, but could have EASILY had one of them in the next year or 2, if I got the Rover as my first car.

But anyway, Back to the VVC, I drove one, I enjoyed obliterating most things on the road once rolling, I enjoyewd spinning the wheels in 3rd gear in the dry, And this was "only" a 170bhp model, with basic suspension/ brake upgrades. I see Reylands 100, which is up for about £3k has 170 bhp AND AWESOME suspension/brakes!

Show string speed at its greatest, You just gotta look past the "its a metro" lol.

Back on topic methinks.
