Upto 50 cc if you have it on your license but you still have to take a CBT test to ride it on the road.
The limit is 125cc,

I'm 22, so if I were to take a bike test, in theory I could then go out and buy a Kawasaki ninja and tax/insure etc it legally?
That would be epic.
OMG so much mis-information here.
If you passed your car test before 2001 then you can ride up to 50cc without l-plates.
If you do a CBT you can ride a 50cc without plates or a 125 with l-plates.
If you are under 21 you can pass your full bike test and ride up to 33bhp (around a 250) you are restricted for 2 years
If over 21 you can go for direct access (DAS) and ride any bike of any power
Before anyone tells me I'm wrong, I'm a biker so know what you have to go through

Well if you are a biker then it must be true.
You still have to have L plates on a 50cc bike/scooter if you've got your CBT but still not taken a test.
Not if you have a full car licence, the CBT validates you moped entitlement (catagory P) on your car licence, a moped licence means you can ride a 50cc bike that doesn't exceed a speed of 32mph without l-plates
Yeah cos I have checked out the laws properly to make sure i'm correctly licenced unlike everyone else that seems to be randomly guessing
Talk to the DSA
My point exactly.
Yeah fair enough, but they will tell you what I just did, I was trying to save him the trouble.
No, if you took your car test before 2001 you don't even need a CBT to ride a 50
I have been thinking for years that id like to have a 125 (just to see how I get on!)
So I could do my CBT and ride one with L plates I assume?
bah...do the CBT....get a few lessons...pass module 1's and 2...then

Nice. Restricted?I agree, get your test done. I did the old test which didnt have the modules, and it was a doddle tbh.
Now my chance to show off my bike (600rr)![]()

Yes, you can ride a restricted 125 on L-plates with a CBT at 17
You can ride anything under 100cc unrestricted on l-plates with a CBT at 17
