  Audi S3 225
Hey, i need to top my oil, but im not sure what stuff to use, i have some castrol edge sport 0w-40 in the garage, but reading on here almost everyone is saying 5w-40, which shall i use or is 0w-40 ok for my car. Btw its a mk1 172 x reg with 39k on the clock.

Thanks

Oh, so it aint too good in 172 engines then, i just need to top it up no no big deal. And its going in for the major service soon so it will get a nice full oil change then.

So whats up with the 0w-40 then? The label makes it sound well good, thats why i bought it a while back.

If you're ever changing the oil< take good read at the manual. The reading sush as 0-40 and 10-40 are all to do with viscosity rating of the oil cold and hot. The smaller number bein cold and the larger being hot.

If the oil aint the correct weigh especially when cold then you can do damage because the oil takes longer to heat up and work correctly.

I wonder why not? I use 0W20 without any problem. The drain interval is over 13000km. They're still running in the engine right now without any problem. The car become more responsive and no problem on either oil temperature and oil pressure. Why people always recommend engine oil which more viscous to hide your engine power? Nowadays, even for Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9, the local dealers used to change the oil of 0W20, 0W30 or 0W40 for their customer. To sum up, the viscousity is not equalty to protection as there's VI (Velocity Index) modifier to keep the visousity even when it's hot, to keep the pressure. The main point is the oil quality itself. don't mix up.
