What on earth

Why on earth would someone be so careless as to loose their service history? Surely its worth hundreds of pounds and should be seen as almost as important as the car itself!

How/why would someone loose it? Are there ever any underhand reasons as to why service history gets lost?

So when you say it doesnt exist, does that mean that the person who has previously owned the car has NEVER had any work done to it? Arent you given a book when the car is purchased which the renault/garage that you take it to can stamp?

every car is issued with a book

it could be lost with a number of possible reasons

What about receipts?

Any proof like that? To be honest, receipts are probably better.. especially if they have the reg printed on them.

Its more likely work wasnt carried out on the car at a Renault dealership or not at all and therefore the book has no stamps, so they choose to say its lost.

If they can produce receipts for work then thats not too bad.

Ahhh, good, its just that i bought mine without a renault service book. However, there are loads of MOT receipts, some receipts for work done such as steering column and power steering pump etc. So i guess the fact that ive got receipts is better than nought!

Have it fully serviced now and then keep up to it. Just to be on the safe side.

i lost my book for my mazda, luckily i had always had it serviced by the local mazda dealer and he printed a receipt for every service. this has details of the mileage etc.... on the invoice

A mechanic friend of mine helped me fit the new head to my valver and the cam belt and alternator belt etc. But it was done in his spare time so i never got receipts - do you think it would be possible to get him to print some for me? Is this illegal?

When i bought my clio it no Service History or receipts, but they did a full service before i took ownership and everything was fine!
