What pads should i buy and what size?

Looking online for detailing items is so confusing.

I have bought a poorboys dual action, which i believe is basically a das 6 pro.

I have no idea what size pads i need and what type / brand to go for.
Does it really make much dofference or is it simply different brands selling the same thing?

I will be doing my BG 182 with rhe machine, bit will then also have a go on our qashqais, one is whote and one is gunmetal grey.

I have ordered some poorboys SSR2.5 with rhe machine to start with.

The chemical guys foam pads are decent enough to start with i would go for the 5.5 inch pads they will fit the backing plate that comes with your polisher and give good cut.
I would recommend getting 4 orange pads for cutting, 4 white pads for polishing and a couple of black pads for sealing although you can apply waxes/sealants by hand easy enough.

I cant really comment on poor boys polishes and i have never used them but at first i would use the white pad to see if you can get the desired correction and if you still have swirls/small scratches after a couple of passes move onto the orange pads.

i would be careful though as in my experience Renault and Nissan paint are very different. The clear coat on my Clio is very hard and i had compound it for any sort of decent correction where as on my Nissan i could correct the paint with just a mild polish

Why so many?? That would be £100 on pads!?

Do you have to use a fresh pad for every car? Or can i use 1 pad on all 3 cars?

You can get away with using just one pad but it takes longer as you have to stop and clean the pad every couple of panels you polish, as the get clogged up with polish and other crud. That’s why I use 4 pads so I can do a couple of panels put a fresh pad on and clean them all at the end when I’m done detailing the car. But 4 is probably a bit excessive if your just starting out. As long as you take care of the pad clean it regularly and don’t overheat it it should last for ages I have pads I must of used on about 30 cars.

What results are you looking for? Do you want to get rid of some of the deeper scratches or just swirl marks or just give the car a nice deep gloss?

I reckon just order 2 white pads and see how you get on if you don’t get the desired correction you can always order some orange pads at a later date.

I wanted my BG paint perfect, which it is now. Its fine to get the pads people mention above but will take you a day and age - weeks to get it done.

As a first stage to get all the scratches out get:
Menzerna White pad - maybe get 2 as after an hour or two the pad will clog and need washing.
Use that pad with Menzerna Heavy cut compund (250ml)

Once you are happy with that its time to make the paint glossy.
Orange Hex logic pads with a medium polish

Then if you can be arsed use a fine hex logic pad with finishing polish.

Thats exactly what i want Gus. I want to see the gold again. I will have a look at what you have suggested then, but what about the ssr2.5 i have ordered? The description says it can be used to get rid of swirls so do i really need the heavy cut compound also?

Ah perfect paint takes a lot of work
Like gus I would recommend menzerna polishes (they are what I use) FG400 on a orange or yellow pad to get rid of scratches and swirls and 3500 on a white or maybe a blue pad to really bring out the depth and the gloss. I think menzerna do a sample kit of 4 different polishes that will be great for you
