What pipe is this? Check yours!

  ex Clio 172 owner :(
Just had my 172 back from it's first MOT. Failed on cv boot came loose but passed once resecured and repacked with grease.

Advisory points:

Nail in rear tyre and
Engine cover causing wear to pipe.

This one.

I can modify the cover myself but just wondering what the pipe is.

I'd advise people to check theirs for wear.

Now I've gotta pray my local tyre fitter can repair my nearly new Eagle F1 tyre. :S

Tried to modify the cover without taking the cover off.

Finding it difficult without damaging the pipe.

Do you know what size Torx bit the engine cover is? None of my bits/screwdrivers fit.

Cheers.

Its not ideal but a flat head screw driver the same size will do the trick to get the engine cover off, they shouldn't be in all that tight. Afterall, its only to hold a plastic cover on....

Cheers Fred.

I searched through a few threads and spotted one other suggesting T30.

I tried the flat head screwdriver but they're in tight like a motherbitch. People say you have to have the engine hot to loosen them.

I didnt know this, but in your tool box in the spare wheel is the right torx screw driver that you can assemble (its the metal pencil shape thing with the torx on one end, and another prob flat head on the other) slide that into a plastic handle shape thing to make it, both items were in my tool box :)

I'll grab a pic of it, but the 2 little steel rods were right in the top parallel to each other, with the plastic handle hidden somewhere else.

i have had that on both my clios. really useful with the right sized torx bits and the screwdriver.

T30 it was.

Really tight they where in.

I got three out ok but unfortunately me, Mr B**l End 2006 has rounded one of the screws off. I'm gonna have to have another go with a persuadertron tomorrow. What a pleb.

Yes and no.

I want to make sure that there's no way it can possibly get worn. I'd rather the pipe lie where it wants to lie naturally rather than force it over to one side. I actually had to apply a fair bit of pressure to move it like in the second pic.

Removing engine cover bolts? Take in to a Renault dealer..they will leave them loose or not put them back on at all.. (alledgedly?).. HARSH BUT TRUE !!

  1.6 focus zetec....
Wrap electrical tape around the offending area and walla....im sure it'll take sometime to wear through the tape and if so....re-wrap it!!
