What shall i do with my car? Want something else

  mk2 ph1
Hey people,

time for me to get out of having a modified car i think and just get something that im not afried to leave places.

I have a 99 T reg 1.2 8 valve clio (D7F) 65k

I've had the car for 3 years now and done all the work on it by myself and a close mate who owns a bodyshop. The question is should i sell it now and look for something else? Im 19 and if i was to get another clio it would have to be a ph2 mk1 172 as i personally prefer the way they look as standard. I have 2years ncb and have a clean license, also have the option of going on my mums name for insurance if i need to, she has something like 8-9years of ncb.

The other question is shall i sell it as it is?

Theres no a lot a can take of body wise as its had a full respray in Honda super sonic blue.

But do you think i should take the alloys off? Will be taking all the stearo stuff out for sure, but also have stuff like buckets seats in there. Or on the other end of the scale do you think i should spent a little more on it and attempt to get it in a magazine before i sell it.

Another thing is where should i advertise it? And what sort of price do you think ill be able to get for it?

Many thanks in advance

Jamie

id leave it as it is mainly, it would look daft having all that done to it and then having standard wheels or something on it, wouldnt get as much interest

could probably put standard seats back in and sell buckets seperatly though

i like the boot on that, tbh dont bother with a feature, they are nothing special and if you rnt in the right circles youll not get one anyway, 7/10 of my mates have had a feature in various mags, ive even croped up in a couple myself,

how much does the car owe you?

Set fire to it tbh, one less abortion of a car on the road for the rest of us to suffer with

Thanks for that, love you too.

Minus audio, seats, stuff that ill be keeping i would have receipts for around 6-7k worth of stuff including the car, i knows its a lot but we all learn from our mistakes and i love my car... just time to grow up.

i dont think its that bad tbh, v cliostylers rather than here but hey.

tbf i rekon u could sell it for 1.5k, remember mods devalue cars rather than adding value

It is ilegal for your mum to insure a car with you as a driver if you are the one who will be doing the MAJORITY of the driving.

To be nonest I'd sell it with the exterior as it is. Not everyone is going to like it, especially on here. But its insurable and to a lot of younger drivers it'll be appealing. Take off mods you can re use or sell on and get a bit of cash back though.

Looks in v good condition as well, nice colour too!!

Apparently insuring under someone elses name is illegal if you're doing the majority of driving but proving thats what you're doing would be pretty hard wouldn't it??

You're not going to do to the ph1 172 you're planning to buy, what you did to that 1.2 are you?

Oh and don't go under your mum's name, it's called insurance 'fronting', you're as good as uninsured if you need to make a claim.

To be honest, thats not entirely correct. I know of people who have insured themselves this way and have had no problems claiming in the event of there being an accident.

Having said that it is best to put the car and insurance in your own name.

you can claim but you have to be very careful about how you word it. insurers are getting more and more hot on this 'fronting' business now. I personally wudnt risk it cuz if u smash it up, and the insurers refuse to pay out, ur up the kybosh, minus any preverbial paddle.

He can put insurance in his mum's name BUT he has legally be classed as the main driver if he does the majorityof the driving. But that'll pretty much cost the same as insurancing it in his own name,so he might as well get more NCB.

Outta interest mate, why did you mod a 1.2? I wanna put some nice alloys and lower my clio but I can't justify the expense on a 1.4. I'd rather my car go faster than it looks it will than the other way round.

Id advertise it in Max power, Revs, or whatever mags are popular with the fibreglass and neon brigade. Fair do's to you for doing a decent job on it though, you see some right half arsed efforts knocking about sometimes!! You just need to hold out for someone who really likes the mods as well as the car to come along, otherwise youll get nothing for it. Good luck anyway though. :D

doesnt look too bad at all tbh, i usually hate modded cars too. Not overly keen on the back end mind. Good effort though.

with regard to selling, steviet knows what hes on about, hold out for sum1 who really likes it.

if u put it in autotrader or sumthing ull get peanuts for it.

Thanks for all the comments guys, i know its not most of you guys cup of tea but i felt the need to be noticed when i was younger and me and my friend put a lot of hours into it.

I felt the need to mod a 1.2 at the time as insurance wise its cheap and in my eyes it looked good.

And no i wont be getting sticky with the fibreglass if i get a 172, maybe a few subtle changes but gonna concentrate more on big brakes, coil overs... essentialy stuff i can take off if i wanted to sell the car as you dont lose as much money that way.

The bonnet vent i got off my brother for free so one weekend i took a grinder to the bonnet and stuck it on, not overly fussed on it tbh.

True, but how would the insurance company prove it?

Would look a little fishy if a 19 year old just happened to crash his 'mum's' (probably modified) clio 172 and needed to claim. Especially if his mum has a car of her own as well.

I understand that it may look a bit dodgy but surely its like anything else in the fact that they need to prove it. Im not being funny just wondering how they would prove a situation like this.
