What size battery for a mk1 172??

Went to the local battery place today to pick up a new one, got an "075" model which I think relates to the size.

Finally got the old battery out and though it looked a bit smaller than the new one, didn't think much else of it.

Went to put the new one in and it was a bit tight, thought it was just the way I was doing it. finally got it inand it's totally rammed, can't really get the cabling in comfortably (especially by the little red button thing).

It's a good 2-3cm longer than the original that's in there, the original looks like it has a model number "055" which is why I was thinking these numbers relate to the size.

So can anyone confirm what size battery I should be getting, links to online places appreciated :)

If you've got it on Chris and the cables aren't stretched or strained I'd leave it. IIRC 75 will mean 750 amps, 55 will mean 550 amps but can't remember. The bigger the better with batteries.

Nah depends where you buy the battery, like at halfords the 075 is the model number, as with some other motor factors, the rating will say like 450 CCA (cold cranking amps). As long as the terminals make good connection it won't matter what size battery you have, bigger is better tbh, you can't over power with the battery.

oh yea forgot to add, I'd say go for one with a guarantee, the halfords "yuasa" brand have up to 4 year gurantee, v useful if you fu*k about with subs and the like!

Nope they are the same ampage, just one is feckin' bigger than the other.

I put the smaller one back in as I'm not happy with it, it's really pressing against the ECU cover and doesn't look too great on the cables.

Both were 400 and something amps.

It's not clear on any site but it sounds as the the 075/055 thing are standard battery sizes, as in physical dimensions. Also seem some previous posts where people have said the 063 is the standard for a 172??

Swapped it for an 063 size battery and it's fine, fitting it in a sec. And it looks cooler which is always a bonus :p
