What size Door Speakers?

  Renault Clio 172 Sport
Im looking to replace the door speakers in my 172 (Phase2), can anyone tell me what size they are please so i know which ones to ask for in the shop or order online?
Also, i was wanting to replace the tweeters possibly, depending on how much of a mare they are!.
Can someone also tell me how you get to the tweeters, im presuming you have to pull the grills out for them on top of the dash? Do they turn and then come out or something?
Help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

you need 13cm speakers mate

so you need 13cm speakers for the rear adn 13cm components for the front. the components will therefore come with tweeters.

to install them you need to take the dash off, which can be a pain in the ar5e.

Thanks for the help... Definately dont fancy removing the dash.
Might get an audio shop to do it for me!.

But you could upgrade the component speaker bit in the front door, and not touch the standard tweeter right?

Then just slap some 13cm full range speakers in the rear?

I was playing some Prodigy today, and the stock system just insn't up to it!!

I've put 13cm co-axials in the back and am putting components in the front next. [Pioneer e-motion]

I'm in the same position as you, I don't fancy taking the dash out to upgrade the tweeters.

Not sure how much abuse the standard tweeters will take before blowing.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be on later to answer ;)

Oh yeah, which Prodigy album did you have on? They were my favourite band when I was a nipper. Molotov b**ch is one of my all-time classics

Were they the standard tweeters that you blew? What have you replaced them with? And where did you site the crossover?

This is my second 172, i had a silver 2002 3 years ago and sold it due to a baby, now hes older i wanted another little rocket powered go kart to play with so i got myself another, red this time.
In my Silver Clio i managed to pull the tweeter covers off and replace the tweeters with Alpine ones without removing the dash. Mind they didnt have big crossovers only small ones which were built into the cable. They sounded ok but like someone said, it wasnt long before i blew em with my 2 V12 Amps powering away!.

Now all i have is a set of excellent Kenwood 6X9's, standard door speakers and tweeters, rear stock disconnected with a nice pioneer MP3 / WMA head unit. All Powered by a JBL 1100W 6 channel GTO amp which someone left in the car when i bought it. Sounds very nice considering but i can imagine the front door speakers and/or tweeters will start smoking anytime now!.

Can anyone recommend any nice components for the front?
I was looking at either Pioneer something like these?

or Infinity like these:

Any recommendations?!

The standard speakers on the clios are absolutely rubbish. if your replacing the door speakers then either buy components and replace the tweeter and mid or put coaxials in there instead. But MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE ORIGINAL TWEETERS!!!!!!
The front speakers are the most important speakers to replace as there what you actually listen to basically on the fact that your ears face forwards!

So is it pretty easy to re-route the feed to a pair of full-range speakers in the front?

That would be my ideal solution, as i have 4x 13cm Focal full ranges sitting in my house, totalling about £200!

It was the last greatest hits album, and the song was Smack my b**ch Up, great for testing stereos.... :D

why not get a set ov door pillers things(cant remeba name) and put 2 tweeters in there, get 1 with 2 holes on the drivers side so u can put a Oil temp/Water/ batter volt and 1 on the other side then u got a cinema lol in ur car :D

Just connect your speakers to the existin wires in the door. You just need to disconnect the tweeter wires. The wires are in the kick panels under the dash or you can pull the wires of the tweeter itself.

if your putting coaxials in the doors ( a speaker with a mid and a tweeter built into the middle) then disconnect the dash tweeter. its will sound hideous!!!!!!!!! the tweeter on the dash is utter rubbish and youll already have one on the new coaxials

Oops I mis-read the post.

For the guy who's putting comps in the front - dash off is a doddle :) you can even fix a few rattles in there!

yeah its probably makin it worse! i cant be arsed to take it off. i fit car audio for a livin and have done it so many times but just cant be arsed!

I don't see the sense in putting coaxils in the front when there are already components there in the first place :S

Fair enough the standard speakers only cost Renault 65p each but make use of the tweeters or better still, relocate them in the A-pillar :)

the tweeters on the clio are just in a really bad position on the dash. they take your face off when there loud. on a decent hi fi system in a car the tweeter should be as close to the mid as possible to give a much better sound stage. the a pillars are ok but only work with very specific component sets. ie high end equipment which have been developed to work in that a pillar position. most just get a hideous sound reflection off the windscreen bein up there.

in short components work very well in some cars but coaxials work better in others. without a build on the clio door they work much better and easier with simple coaxials.

I see what you mean - I have pods built for my tweeter pillars & comps in the doors.

I know exactly what you mean about the soundstage etc - I'm always trying to explain it to mates who think Halfrauds can give them a great install with 6x9s blah blah blah :slap:
